Batman: Arkham Knight
Rocksteady's 2015 finale is the largest and most technically ambitious of its Arkham games, and the most divisive. Gotham is now fully open, three islands connected by a grapnel boost that lets Batman cross the city without touching the ground, and the freeflow combat has been extended with dual takedowns, environment attacks and fear multi-takedowns that let you clear five armed men in one uninterrupted sequence. The Batmobile is the argument. It is both a tank in combat arenas and a car in pursuits, it is used constantly, and the tank battles against unmanned drones consume more of the game than many players wanted from a Batman title. The Scarecrow plot and the handling of the Joker are the strongest writing in the series, and the ending commits to something the previous games kept deferring. Its PC release in 2015 was so broken it was pulled from sale for months, which permanently coloured its reputation; the version available now is fixed and includes all the season-pass content.
