Dying Light
Techland's 2015 game combines two things nobody had properly joined: parkour and zombies. First-person free-running is the whole design - you look at a ledge, you get to it, and the city of Harran is built as a continuous climbable surface where almost nothing is off limits. That makes the day-night cycle the real mechanic. In daylight you are a scavenger picking off shamblers with improvised weapons that break; after dark the Volatiles come out, they are faster than you, and the game becomes a chase where the only correct move is to reach a safe house without looking back. Weapons are crafted and modified from blueprints, and the melee has genuine weight. Co-op supports four players plus an invasion mode where someone plays a night hunter. The story is functional; the DLC expansion The Following adds a large rural map and a buggy to drive across it. Techland supported it with free content for years, and its movement remains better than the sequel's.
