You crash on an alien planet and need to build a rocket to leave. Everything between those two facts is logistics. Wube's game starts with mining ore by hand and ends with city-block factories that produce thousands of items a minute across dozens of interlocking production chains, and the difficulty curve is entirely self-inflicted: nothing stops you except the throughput of whatever you built an hour ago. Its reputation for consuming time is earned, because the failure state is not death but a bottleneck, and a bottleneck is a puzzle you can see. The engine deserves specific credit — it simulates enormous belt networks at a stable tick rate, which is why late-game bases stay playable at all — and the blueprint system lets you stamp proven designs rather than rebuild them. Indigenous biters attack in response to your pollution, tying combat directly to how dirty your production is, which is more thematically pointed than most survival games manage. The Space Age expansion extends the whole loop across multiple planets with per-planet constraints.
