Tango Gameworks' 2023 action game shadow-dropped with no marketing from a studio known for survival horror, which is most of why it was a surprise. Everything in it runs on the beat: enemies attack on it, platforms move on it, the world bobs on it, and your combos land harder when your inputs are on it too. Crucially, being off-beat does not fail you - it just scores worse - so it works for people with no rhythm-game instincts while rewarding those who have them. Combat is a character-action kit with launchers, parries and assist characters mapped to timing windows, and boss fights are structured as multi-phase set pieces choreographed to licensed tracks by Nine Inch Nails and The Prodigy alongside an original score. The cel-shaded art holds up entirely, the tone is broad cartoon comedy about a guy with a scrap-metal arm fighting a tech corporation, and it runs about twelve hours. Tango was closed in 2024 and later revived, which made this a much-cited example of a good game being no protection.
