Insomniac's 2020 standalone follow-up is shorter than the 2018 game by design and uses that to be more focused. Miles has taken over Manhattan for the winter while Peter is away, and his powers are the differentiator: bio-electric venom attacks that stun and crowd-clear, and a genuine camouflage that changes stealth from a positioning problem into an active one. The traversal is the same excellent web-swinging with more flair in the animation. Harlem is the emotional centre, and the story about a neighbourhood, a friend on the wrong side and a mother running for office is tighter and better paced than its predecessor's. Snow-covered New York with ray-traced reflections was the PlayStation 5's first real showcase, and the PC version in November 2022 brought that with uncapped frame rates. It runs about eight hours plus side content, which is the right length for what it is: not a smaller sequel so much as a complete second album.
