BioWare's 2021 collection is the whole trilogy remastered into one launcher, and its main achievement is making the 2007 original genuinely playable. Mass Effect 1 gets the biggest intervention: combat aim and cover behave like the sequels, the Mako's suspension no longer fights you, inventory management is rebuilt, and the framing and lighting are re-graded rather than merely upscaled. Two and Three receive resolution, texture and load-time work plus every piece of DLC included, which matters because some of that DLC - Lair of the Shadow Broker, Citadel - is among the best content in the series. Playing all three in sequence is the point: decisions in the first game reappear in the third, characters live or die based on loyalty missions two games earlier, and the trilogy's continuity is still unmatched in scope. The multiplayer from Mass Effect 3 is gone and its influence on the ending has been removed with it. The Andromeda-era controversies are absent here; this is the trilogy as it is remembered, minus the friction.
