Persona 3 Reload Review

Atlus's 2024 remake rebuilds the 2006 original in the visual language of Persona 5 without importing its systems wholesale. The calendar and social structure are intact - a year at a Japanese boarding school where midnight hides a hidden hour and a tower full of Shadows - but combat is modernised with direct party control, replacing the original's much-criticised AI-driven allies, and Theurgy attacks give each character a signature ability. Tartarus, the procedurally assembled tower, is still repetitive by design and has been given more visual variety and shorter grind. What survives untouched is the tone. Persona 3 is a story about mortality with an ending the series has never topped, and the remake resists the temptation to soften it. Social links have been rewritten with additional scenes for the male party members, addressing a long-standing gap. The Answer, the original's epilogue campaign, arrived later as paid DLC. It is the best entry point to the series' most serious game.
