Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Review
Saber's 2024 sequel arrived twelve years after the original and understood exactly what people wanted from it: a third-person shooter where you are enormously armoured and enormously outnumbered. The swarm technology is the reason it works - hundreds of Tyranids on screen simultaneously, climbing over each other, so the fantasy of a Space Marine wading through a tide is rendered literally rather than implied. Combat alternates gunfire with melee, and the parry-and-gunstrike loop rewards standing your ground rather than retreating, with an executions system that restores armour so aggression is the survival mechanic. The campaign supports three-player co-op throughout, and Operations mode adds a separate progression with six classes for people who want to keep playing. PvP is present and secondary. The Warhammer 40,000 presentation is unusually faithful, with the scale, the vox chatter and the grimness intact. Saber kept adding free content and paid seasons through 2025. It is the best 40K game since Dawn of War.
