Kuro Games' 2024 action RPG launched into direct comparison with Genshin Impact and differentiated itself on combat feel. It is built around parries and dodge-counters rather than elemental reactions: most enemy attacks have a flashing tell that can be countered on frame, and the Intro and Outro skill system chains characters together so a rotation is a deliberate sequence rather than three separate cooldowns. Traversal is the other differentiator - free climbing without a stamina wall, wall-running, and a grapple - which makes the open world faster to cross than its competitors. Solaris-3 is a post-apocalyptic setting where the Rover wakes with no memory into regions that have been visually distinct since the Black Shores update. Its launch was rough, with a criticised English localisation and performance problems on mobile, and Kuro's response over the following patches was unusually direct about it. Version updates arrive roughly every six weeks and the combat remains the best in the free-to-play open-world category.

Wuthering Waves Review: An Ambitious Open World RPG That Dares to Compete

Wuthering Waves is a technically ambitious open-world RPG with excellent combat, but inconsistent polish and a weak narrative prevent it from fully realizing its potential.
