Sony Announces R-Rated Animated Bloodborne Movie at CinemaCon — JackSepticEye Co-Producing

The hunt is going animated. Sony Pictures has officially announced an R-rated animated Bloodborne movie at CinemaCon 2026, giving one of gaming's most revered worlds its first big-screen adaptation. And there is a surprising name behind it — YouTube star JackSepticEye is co-producing.

Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, confirmed the project during Sony's CinemaCon presentation, promising the film will be very true to the gory, gothic spirit of FromSoftware's 2015 masterpiece.

A Faithful Gothic Vision

The animated film follows a traveler who journeys into a gothic city overrun with nightmarish creatures — the same premise that captivated millions of players when the original game launched as a PlayStation 4 exclusive. Sony is leaning into the source material's dark atmosphere, and the R-rating signals they will not be pulling punches when it comes to the visceral combat and body horror that define the Bloodborne experience.

The film is a collaboration between PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation, and Sean McLoughlin — better known as JackSepticEye, one of the world's most-watched gaming creators. Lyrical Media, the parent company of Lyrical Animation, is co-financing the project alongside Sony Pictures.

JackSepticEye's Passion Project

McLoughlin's involvement goes beyond a celebrity cameo. As co-producer, the Irish YouTuber brings genuine passion for the IP — Bloodborne has been a cornerstone of his content for years. In a video posted to his channel following the announcement, McLoughlin expressed unbridled enthusiasm for the project, though he stopped short of revealing specific production details.

His participation represents an interesting convergence of gaming content creation and Hollywood production, a trend that is accelerating as studios recognize the marketing power and creative instincts of top gaming personalities.

What We Know So Far

Details remain sparse. No director, voice cast, or release window has been announced. What we do know is that Sony sees Bloodborne as a significant piece of its expanding video game adaptation slate, which has already found success with properties like The Last of Us and Uncharted.

For the millions of fans who have been asking for any sign of Bloodborne's return — whether through a sequel, remaster, or PC port — an R-rated animated film might not be exactly what they expected. But if Sony delivers on its promise of faithfulness to the source material, this could become one of the most visually striking video game adaptations ever produced.

No release date has been announced for the Bloodborne animated movie. Stay tuned for updates as production progresses.
