Look Outside, the pixel-art survival horror RPG that Devolver Digital shadow-dropped on PC in March 2025, is finally leaving Steam. Devolver and solo developer Francis Coulombe have announced that the game launches on PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on October 30, one week from today and the day before Halloween. A console price has not been announced yet.
A shadow-drop that kept growing
Look Outside first appeared with almost no warning. Coulombe, who goes by FrankieSmileShow online, announced it only a week before its March 21, 2025 release on Steam, priced at $9.99. With Devolver publishing, the small surprise release found a big audience, and Coulombe has kept updating it ever since.
The console versions are the first time the game has left PC. That matters here because Look Outside is built around short, tense trips out of a single apartment and back home again, the kind of loop that fits a handheld well. The Switch and Switch 2 versions could end up being the most natural way to play it.

What Look Outside is
The premise is simple. A mysterious event turns anyone who looks out a window into something grotesque, and the outside world collapses. You play Sam, who stays put in his apartment building and does exactly what the title tells him not to do: nothing involving windows. Instead he scavenges the corridors, flats and basement for food, supplies and weapons, and meets the building's other residents. Some are still human, some very much aren't, and some can be talked into joining you.
The structure splits into two halves. Out in the building you explore in top-down view, picking up makeshift weapons and items and tripping over the aftermath of whatever happened behind each door. Back home you recover by cooking dinner, crafting tools, playing games and spending time with the neighbours you've taken in. Devolver's store page promises 10 to 12 hours of play, a dozen boss encounters and several endings, so a single run won't show you everything.

Turn-based fights with a twist
Combat is turn-based, but with a spatial wrinkle: it tracks the distance between Sam and whatever he's fighting, so closing in or keeping back is part of the decision on every turn. There are more than 150 hand-drawn creatures to fight, and Coulombe's body-horror pixel art, all teeth, eyes and things that were recently people, is the main reason the game stood out on release. Weapons range from a baseball bat to firearms with very limited ammunition, so ammo is a resource to manage rather than a default attack.
The console version arrives after years of updates
Console players won't be getting the game as it launched. In October 2025 Coulombe and Devolver released the free Final Vision update, which turned Look Outside into a 2.0 version with new endings, new monsters, new bosses, new quests and areas, plus a Cursed challenge mode for anyone who found the original too forgiving.
Update 2.3 followed in April 2026 with another long changelog. It redesigned the battle against Mutt, reworked the Honko fight, added new special moves for some weapons and gave the recruitable characters new abilities. It also added an accessibility option to turn off the animated tile effects, which some players found straining, and reworked how the end-of-game score is calculated, raising the bar for the top ranks.

Devolver hasn't said which build the PS5, PS4, Switch 2 and Switch versions are based on. Since the game has been updated steadily for over a year and a half, launching on consoles with the current content would be the obvious move, but that hasn't been confirmed.
What we still don't know
With a week to go, a few details are still missing: the console price, whether Switch owners get a free upgrade to the Switch 2 version, and whether PS4 owners can move up to PS5. Expect the store listings to fill in those gaps in the coming days.
Look Outside launches on PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on October 30, and it's available now on PC via Steam.
