Saros just got its biggest post-launch update. Housemarque's Zenith update is out now on PS5 as a free download for everyone who owns the game. It pulls in two directions at once: new assist options for people who bounced off the bullet-hell intensity, and a New Game+ structure, a crown-based collectible hunt and a boss-rush leaderboard mode for players who have already beaten Carcosa.
Slow Game Speed: the bullets stay, you get more time
Housemarque has always resisted the obvious way to make its games easier, which is to thin out what enemies throw at you. Zenith keeps that rule. The headline accessibility option is a new Slow Game Speed setting that slows the whole simulation down instead of cutting projectiles. Every attack pattern stays exactly the same, but you get more time to read the telegraphs and pick a jump, dash, shield or parry.
The setting is adjustable rather than an on/off switch. You can choose how much the game slows down, and whether it kicks in automatically whenever combat starts or only when you trigger it manually for the toughest moments.
Auto-fire, without auto-reload
The second new option is Auto-fire. With it on, your weapon shoots on its own whenever you are aiming at a hostile, so you don't have to hold a trigger down through long encounters. It's aimed at players who find sustained button presses tiring or painful, and it frees up attention for movement, which is the real skill in Saros.
Housemarque drew a line here: reloading stays manual. Saros's timed perfect reload still needs a well-judged button press, so the mechanic that rewards rhythm and precision survives. Auto-fire joins Motion Sensor Aiming and the existing full button remapping, so you now have many ways to set up the controls.
Twenty new Carcosan Modifiers
Saros already lets you retune Carcosa with Carcosan Modifiers. Protection Modifiers make the run more forgiving, and Trial Modifiers make it harsher. Zenith adds ten of each.

One of the new Protections changes how Corruption works. Corruption is the debuff that builds up on your armor from certain projectiles and eats into your maximum Integrity. With the new Corruption Melee Enhancement Protection, a landed melee strike consumes that stored Corruption and turns it into bonus damage in a single heavy hit. The danger is still there, but the modifier gives you a reason to push in close instead of backing off.
On the Trial side, Hostile Regeneration lets your guns stun larger enemies, but they quickly recover unless you finish them with melee. That forces aggressive play.
Eclipse Layers: Saros gets New Game+
Those Trials feed straight into Zenith's biggest addition for veterans. Eclipse Layers is a New Game+ mode that opens after the credits, when new nodes appear on the Armor Matrix back at Passage. Each Layer is a tougher, rule-altered version of the campaign. Before you can enter one, you have to equip enough Carcosan Modifiers to reach a minimum threshold, so you have to take on several Trials, chosen from a pool of 25.
The freedom to pick your own Trials matters. Some combinations stack into much nastier runs than others, so building your loadout becomes part of the challenge.

A crown that grows with your difficulty
Zenith also gives you a way to show off your difficulty level. In the Eclipse Layers, Arjun wears a crown and his armor glows gold, and the crown gets bigger and more ornate as your Trial count and Modifier balance go up. It shows up in Photo Mode, too.
The crown also unlocks content. Twelve new collectibles called Visions, carved murals and messages left by an ancient king, are scattered across Carcosa in the Eclipse Layers. Higher Crown levels are needed to read their extra story text, so getting the full lore means playing on harder settings.
Overlord Rush puts the bosses on a leaderboard
The final addition is Overlord Rush, a boss-rush mode you start from the Primary Unit in Passage. It drops you into a training simulation where you race to beat Saros's Overlords as fast as you can, with times posted to an online leaderboard.

The mode comes in three Sets. Incursion and Ascension each pit you against three Overlords and take about ten minutes. Totality chains all eight Overlords from the campaign into one continuous gauntlet. You can filter the global and friends leaderboards by main weapon, so you can chase a top spot with your favorite gun even if the overall top ten is out of reach. Leaderboards require an internet connection and a PlayStation account.
Who Zenith is for
Saros launched on April 30 as a PS5 exclusive, and Zenith is a clear bid to bring players back six months later. If its pace kept you out, Slow Game Speed and Auto-fire are aimed squarely at you. If you have already finished it, Eclipse Layers, the Visions and Overlord Rush give you reasons to go back. Zenith is free, and it's available now for every Saros owner on PS5.
