Warframe is finally pointing its ships at Tau. Digital Extremes' Epoch Operation: Taubound starts on October 15 and runs until November 17. It's a one-time community event in which the whole player base gathers fuel for the long-teased trip out of the Origin System. A permanent new quest, the Prologue to Tau, arrives the same day, and in it you get to play as the Lotus for the first time.
What Taubound actually asks you to do
The setup is simple. Praghasa, the Sentient Mothership, needs a huge amount of energy to open a route to the Tau System, and players supply it. You play any mission on Eris as your Warframe, collect a new resource called Moonflesh, and hand it to Praghasa. In return she trades you event rewards, and if you keep visiting her she has a new piece of daily narrative dialogue for the length of the Operation.
Digital Extremes is clearly trying to get as many players in as possible. Eris usually sits behind Star Chart progress and Junctions, but those requirements are lifted for this event. Anyone who has finished the opening Vor's Prize quest can travel there and start collecting. Lapsed players returning for Tau won't have to clear a backlog of nodes before they can join in.
One month, no reruns
The studio is blunt about the timing: there will be no reruns of Taubound. Warframe usually brings its limited events back in some form, and that habit has taught players they can wait for the next window. This time the Operation is billed as a one-off moment in the game's history. That covers the rewards and also Praghasa's event dialogue, which won't be heard again after November 17.
The daily messages are the more unusual part. In past community events, contributing mostly meant filling a progress bar. Here the progress is tied to a character who talks to you each day, so checking in during the month also carries the story on toward Tau.
Prologue to Tau puts you in the Lotus's shoes
The story content arrives alongside the event but works separately from it. Prologue to Tau is a short addition to Warframe's cinematic quest line and stays in the Codex after the Operation ends, so there's no rush to finish it. It's the piece Digital Extremes showed at TennoLIVE 2026, and it lets players control the Lotus directly for the first time. For more than a decade the Lotus has been the voice guiding players through the Origin System.

The quest also pays off TennoCon. Players can take the Vessel they customised during that event down to the surface of Eris in a level built for the quest, and it ends with a large Infested boss fight. There's an entry requirement: you need to have completed both The Hex and The Old Peace to unlock it. You don't need either quest to collect Moonflesh, so newer players can still take part in the Operation while they catch up on the story.
The rewards on offer
Praghasa's reward list is mostly cosmetic, and some of it is new. Digital Extremes' event art shows four headline items: the Dhampyre Syandana, the Contegorus Armor Set, the Vacis Amp Skin and a Legendary Core. Around them are exclusive event Honoria, new Somachords, and the usual spread of Glyphs, Sigils, Floofs, Signas, Badges and Blueprints.

Since the event won't return, these items become a record of who was there. A Legendary Core is a different matter, though: it maxes out a mod instantly, so even players who don't care about cosmetics have a practical reason to turn in Moonflesh before the Operation ends.
Where this leads
Tau has been part of Warframe's background lore almost from the start, as a distant system the game kept hinting at and never visited. Digital Extremes has said Warframe: Tau is due later this year. Taubound and the Prologue are the last steps before it: the event fuels the trip, and the quest sets up the story the expansion will carry on.
The Xbox Wire announcement was aimed at Xbox players, who have had Warframe since 2014 and now have cross-play and cross-save with other platforms. The Operation is a community-wide event, though, and the studio's own page covers every player. Taubound starts on October 15, so log in before November 17 if you want any of it.
