Crimson Desert's Charting the Unknown DLC Slips Two Weeks to October 29

Pearl Abyss has delayed Crimson Desert's first paid expansion, Charting the Unknown, from October 15 to October 29 to give it more polish. Here are the new unlock times for every region.

Crimson Desert's Charting the Unknown DLC Slips Two Weeks to October 29

Pearl Abyss has pushed back Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown, the first paid expansion for its open-world action game. The DLC was due on October 15. It now launches on October 29, 2026, two weeks later. The studio announced the change today in a short message to players on Steam, saying the team needs more development time to ship a more polished and stable expansion.

What Pearl Abyss said

The statement is brief and doesn't hedge. Pearl Abyss says work on Charting the Unknown is going well, but the team has decided the extra time is needed to deliver the experience it wants. It apologises for the longer wait, acknowledges that many players were looking forward to returning to Pywel this month, and says the two weeks will go into refining the content. It does not name specific problems or features behind the decision, and there is no suggestion that the scope of the expansion has changed.

A two-week slip is about as small as delays get, and making it a fortnight before launch rather than days out gives pre-order holders clear notice. The new date is still a fixed day, not a vague window, so this looks like a final polish pass, not a project in trouble.

Release times by region

Pearl Abyss has also published an exact unlock schedule. The expansion goes live simultaneously worldwide, which means the date shifts depending on where you are:

So for players in Korea and Japan, the expansion effectively arrives on the Friday morning, while in the Americas it lands on Thursday afternoon. Charting the Unknown is priced at $24.99 and is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Pre-orders are still open, and the pre-order bonuses are unchanged: the Charter's Diving Set for Kliff and Oongka, and the Charter's Light Diving Set for Damiane.

Diving is one of the headline additions: the expansion opens up a full underwater layer beneath the seas around Pywel.

What the expansion adds

The delay doesn't change what's in the box, and there's a lot. Charting the Unknown gives players a ship and the ocean beyond Pywel's coastline, with new islands to sail to and land on. Below the surface there is a new underwater layer: sunken ruins, treasure and whatever creatures are guarding them. According to Pearl Abyss's own store description, the danger now spans both land and sea, with new and tougher enemies to match.

The expansion also continues the story after the base campaign. The official description lists several new threads: an ominous presence in the desert, a dangerous political conflict, a journey beyond time and an ancient secret beneath the waves. Kliff, Oongka and Damiane each get their own arc, which suggests the DLC is spreading its story across all three characters rather than keeping the camera on Kliff.

Pearl Abyss is sticking with the oversized machine-creature designs that became a Crimson Desert trademark.

Housing turns into a business

Away from combat, the expansion reworks the existing housing mode. Players will be able to rent and run a range of facilities to earn money, and build a home with more customisation than before. There is also more room for deeper relationships with Pywel's residents. Together these changes give the side systems an economy of their own, so they are more than decoration, and give returning players a reason to stay once the new story is done.

For Pearl Abyss, the stakes are higher than a normal add-on. Crimson Desert had a bumpy launch earlier this year, then built up a big player base through a steady run of patches. The latest, version 2.03.02, went out just last week and fixed several quest and exploration blockers. Charting the Unknown is the first time the studio has charged for new content, so there is a clear reason to spend two more weeks getting it right rather than shipping on schedule and patching afterwards.

One of the new story threads involves a dangerous political conflict, and Damiane has her own arc in the expansion.

What happens next

The only thing that has changed for players is the date. Existing pre-orders carry over to October 29 automatically, and the price, platforms and bonuses are the same. Pearl Abyss hasn't said whether there will be more previews in the extra two weeks, but with launch now four weeks away, a deeper look at the ship and diving systems before release seems likely. We'll cover it here when the expansion goes live.
