Night City is getting another free overhaul. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077's next patch, version 2.5, is called the Edgerunners 2 Update, and it arrives on Thursday, October 22. The studio is keeping most of the contents under wraps until a REDstreams broadcast the day before, but it has already named two headline additions: deeper cyberware customization and a brand-new dual-wielding playstyle.
What we know about update 2.5
The announcement is short and to the point. Update 2.5 is free for everyone who owns the game, it lands on October 22, and the studio says the cyberware and dual-wielding changes are only part of the package, with "more" to be shown on stream. CD Projekt Red hasn't published patch notes, file sizes or a platform breakdown yet, so the full scope of the update, and whether every version of the game gets it on the same day, should become clear once the broadcast airs and the notes go live.
Even the bare outline is notable. Cyberware has been the backbone of V's build since the 2.0 overhaul in 2023 rebuilt it around a capacity system and tied the most powerful implants to the skill tree. A customization pass on top of that suggests more control over how installed chrome behaves or looks, rather than simply a few new parts on the ripperdoc's shelf. Dual-wielding, meanwhile, would be a genuinely new way to fight. Until now V has carried one gun at a time, and an extra weapon in the off hand changes how builds, perks and ammo all fit together.

When and where to watch the REDstreams
The REDstreams episode goes out on Wednesday, October 21 at 5 PM CEST. That's 15:00 UTC, 4 PM in the UK, 11 AM Eastern and 8 AM Pacific. CD Projekt Red is broadcasting on its Twitch channel, on the Cyberpunk 2077 YouTube channel and directly on Steam, and the studio says it will take a closer look at the update and "some of its new features". Going by previous REDstreams, expect developers walking through the new systems with live gameplay rather than a single trailer.
The timing leaves less than a day between the reveal and the download, so anyone who wants to plan a fresh build around the new cyberware options or the dual-wield style will have the stream as their only preview.
Why it's named after Edgerunners 2
The name is not a coincidence. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is the follow-up to the 2022 anime that sent the game back up the sales charts, and CD Projekt Red has been building toward it with a run of official teasers. The studio did something similar the first time around: patch 1.6, released alongside the original series in 2022, was also branded the Edgerunners Update and brought gear and a side quest inspired by the show into the game.
The link runs right through the artwork as well. CD Projekt Red credits Taisei Uchida for the original art on the update's official illustration, with Yukiko Kakita on ink and paint checks and Yuichiro Tozawa on special effects, which is the kind of credit list you would normally see on an anime production rather than a patch announcement. The studio hasn't said whether 2.5 adds new missions or characters tied to the second series, and that's one of the bigger questions the stream should answer.

Still growing, years after launch
Cyberpunk 2077 launched in December 2020, and its post-launch story has turned into one of the longest rehabilitation arcs in the industry. The 2.0 update and the Phantom Liberty expansion reworked perks, police, vehicle combat and cyberware in 2023, and the game has kept receiving smaller free updates since then, adding things like new vehicles and photo mode options. A 2.5 update that adds a whole new combat style shows CD Projekt Red is still willing to change how the game plays, not just polish it, while most of the studio's attention has moved on to the Cyberpunk sequel and the next Witcher game.
The short version
Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5, the Edgerunners 2 Update, is free and launches on October 22. It adds cyberware customization and a dual-wielding playstyle, with more to be revealed. The full reveal is on REDstreams on October 21 at 5 PM CEST, on Twitch, YouTube and Steam. We'll know the full patch notes, platforms and download size once CD Projekt Red publishes them.
