Dune: Awakening Hits PS5 and Xbox on September 22 With a Full Single-Player Mode, a Free Polar Cap Map, and Day-One Game Pass

Funcom's open-world survival RPG Dune: Awakening arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22, 2026, alongside a cross-platform update adding a full single-player mode, PvE access to the Deep Desert, and a free Polar Cap ice map. It joins Game Pass day one.

Dune: Awakening Hits PS5 and Xbox on September 22 With a Full Single-Player Mode, a Free Polar Cap Map, and Day-One Game PassGame Pass

After a year of building out the deep desert on PC, Funcom is finally bringing Dune: Awakening to consoles. The open-world survival RPG set on Arrakis arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22, 2026 - and it is not a stripped-down port. The console launch lands alongside a major cross-platform update that fundamentally changes how the game can be played.

Funcom showed off the console version with a fresh story trailer, giving newcomers a cinematic look at the spice-soaked political conflict, the survival loop, and of course the sandworms that remain Arrakis' deadliest hazard.

A full single-player mode for everyone

The headline addition is a complete single-player mode, launching the same day across every platform. When Dune: Awakening first shipped on Steam, its survival-MMO structure leaned heavily on shared servers; this update adds a self-contained way to experience the story solo, capped by the dramatic finale of the Book One storyline. It is the kind of overhaul that finally answers the most common question players had at launch.

The optional PvP gets a rework too. The Deep Desert - once a PvP-only open zone - and the Landsraad faction warfare are now both fully playable in PvE, so the high-stakes endgame is open to players who would rather not be ambushed over a spice harvest.

Game Pass, Play Anywhere, and a free polar map

On Xbox, Dune: Awakening joins Game Pass on day one and supports Xbox Play Anywhere with cross-play between Xbox and the Windows PC Store. Both PS5 and Xbox Series X target 60fps in Performance Mode, and Funcom says the controls and UI have been rebuilt from the ground up for controller.

Looking past launch, the studio also announced a free post-launch map called The Polar Cap, set at the north pole of Arrakis. It introduces an ice biome with new survival mechanics and challenges - a striking change of scenery for a game defined by endless dunes.

The PS5 version is listed at $49.99 for the Standard Edition, with $69.99 Deluxe and $89.99 Ultimate tiers offering head-start access and extras. After more than a year of patches and improvements baked in, console players are arriving to a far more complete version of Arrakis than the one that launched in 2025.
