Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Celebrates Its First Anniversary With Wolfgang Krauser, a New Story Mode, and a $20 Standard Edition

SNK marks Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves' first birthday with DLC character Wolfgang Krauser, the Wolves' Destiny story mode, Ring Out battles, a UI overhaul, a $19.99 Standard Edition, and a Masami Obari anime short.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Celebrates Its First Anniversary With Wolfgang Krauser, a New Story Mode, and a $20 Standard Edition

SNK's marquee fighting game hits a milestone today as Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves celebrates its first anniversary with one of the most loaded updates in the franchise's history. Version 2.0.1 drops on April 24 alongside DLC character Wolfgang Krauser, a fully voiced story expansion, a returning fan-favorite mechanic, a complete UI overhaul, and a new $19.99 Standard Edition that dramatically lowers the barrier to entry for newcomers.

Wolfgang Krauser, the Emperor of Darkness himself, returns to South Town as a Season 2 DLC character, voiced by Patrick Seitz in English and Yutaka Aoyama in Japanese. His arrival includes a dedicated stage, Kaiser Hall, a grand German-style concert hall complete with a live audience. Krauser's moveset reflects his ruthless reputation, and his inclusion fills one of the most requested roster gaps in the game's community.

Wolves' Destiny: A Full Story Mode

The centerpiece of the anniversary update is Wolves' Destiny, a new narrative mode that tells the story of Krauser's return to South Town and his feud with Kain R. Heinlein. The mode features over 15,000 words of fully voiced dialogue in both Japanese and English, accompanied by nearly 150 new illustrations. For a fighting game, that is an unusually deep investment in single-player storytelling and a clear response to community demand for more narrative content beyond arcade ladders and tutorial modes.

Ring Outs Return From Real Bout

One of the biggest gameplay additions is the return of Ring Outs, a mechanic beloved since the Real Bout Fatal Fury era. A new stage called Second South Central features environmental hazards where fighters can be knocked out of bounds into a passing subway train or launched on top of it. It is the kind of spectacle that makes for unforgettable tournament moments and adds a layer of positional strategy that the base game's stages did not previously offer.

UI Overhaul and New Standard Edition

Version 2.0.1 also replaces the entire main menu with a new Mode Select screen, streamlining navigation across the game's three core access points. The redesign addresses a persistent complaint from the community about the original interface's cluttered layout.

For players who have been on the fence, SNK is launching a Standard Edition at $19.99, the game's lowest price ever. This edition includes the full base roster and all modes that shipped at launch but excludes DLC characters and stages. The Legend Edition, which bundles both season passes, is on sale for $29.99 (40% off) for a limited time.

Anime Short, Soundtrack, and Season 2 Roadmap

To cap off the anniversary celebration, SNK commissioned renowned animator Masami Obari to create a special animated short depicting Krauser's quest for vengeance against Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, and Joe Higashi. The short is available now on SNK's official channels.

Looking ahead, Season 2 will roll out six characters on a monthly cadence: Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, Blue Mary, Wolfgang Krauser (available now), a Kenshiro guest character from Fist of the North Star, and one still-unannounced fighter. The game's 97-track soundtrack, headlined by the theme song "Chain Reaction," is slated for release on music streaming services in June 2026.
