HoYoverse's Petit Planet Launches December 4 on PC, iOS and Android, Free to Download

HoYoverse's Petit Planet Launches December 4 on PC, iOS and Android, Free to Download

HoYoverse has set a launch date for Petit Planet, its cozy life simulation set among the stars. The game arrives on December 4 on PC, iOS and Android, and it is free to download on all three. It is a sharp turn for the studio behind Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero: there is no combat loop on show here, just a small planet of your own to shape, a group of fuzzy residents to look after and a wider sea of stars to sail when you feel like wandering.

Where and when you can play

On PC, Petit Planet will be available through the Epic Games Store and through HoYoverse's own client download. On phones, it is listed on the App Store and on Google Play, and the App Store page already carries the December 4 date. All three versions are free to download. HoYoverse has not detailed its monetization in the launch announcement, so expect the usual questions about cosmetics and premium currency to be answered closer to release.

Before launch, the studio is holding an official release preview broadcast on November 1, from 6:00 to 7:00 a.m. EST. Livestreams like this are where HoYoverse has traditionally laid out launch events, login rewards and the first round of content plans for its games, so it is the next date to note if you are planning to play from day one. A release date trailer is also out, in English, Japanese, Korean and Traditional Chinese.

A planet that is entirely yours

The core idea is simple. You are given a little planet, and almost every part of it is up for grabs. You build and decorate a home, then reshape the landscape around it: the terrain, the coastline and even the sky. HoYoverse pitches it as a place that can be bright, dreamy, natural or completely wild, depending on what you want it to be. The store material shows a tile-based ground editor with brick, stone, wood, clover and mosaic finishes, alongside placeable furniture such as benches, lanterns and wells.

The building tools let you repaint paths and plots tile by tile, then dress the space with benches, lamps and wells.

That approach puts Petit Planet in the same broad space as other island and village life sims, but with a cosmic twist: your home is a whole world in miniature, and the night sky above it is part of what you get to design.

Fuzzy Neighbors with stories to tell

You will not be living alone. Neighbors drift across the Starsea looking for a place to settle, and you can invite them to make your planet their home. Each one has a distinct personality and its own quirks, and you learn their stories by helping them out, swapping gifts, sharing meals or just going for walks together. Over time, HoYoverse says, the planet stops feeling like a project and starts feeling like a home.

Neighbors range from a saluting bird in a pilot jacket to a bespectacled sheep. Outfits go as far as a full mushroom costume.

Farming, fishing and everyday magic

The daily routine is classic life-sim fare, given a gentle magical spin. You grow unusual crops, fish, catch bugs and comb the shoreline for finds. In the kitchen you combine ingredients to discover new recipes, and small sprites are said to pop up unexpectedly while you work. None of it is meant to be rushed: the game is built around playing at your own pace, with no pressure to optimize every hour.

Crops can grow to absurd sizes, and the farm plots sit right alongside your home.

Out into the Starsea

When you want a change of scene, you can sail out across the Starsea with your fuzzy helpers. Trips beyond your planet are where you gather materials, discover curious creatures and meet characters who might later become Neighbors. It is the game's main exploration loop, and it feeds back into the building and crafting at home.

The Galactic Bazaar

For players who want company, the Galactic Bazaar is the social hub. Planet Tenders from across the universe gather there to trade, play, create and simply hang out. The bazaar is optional: you can spend most of your time on your own planet and visit only when you feel like being around other people. This mix of solo and social play is the clearest sign that Petit Planet is designed as a long-running live game rather than a one-off release.

What to watch for next

With the date locked, the November 1 preview broadcast is the next milestone. Expect HoYoverse to cover launch rewards, how the PC client and mobile versions connect, and what the first post-launch updates hold. Petit Planet launches on December 4 on PC via the Epic Games Store and HoYoverse's client, and on iOS and Android, free to download.
