Pokemon GO's October Community Day Is Zorua

Niantic has set October 10 for Zorua Community Day, with a three-hour spawn flood, boosted shiny odds, Special Background encounters and an exclusive Fast Attack Sucker Punch on Zoroark.

Pokemon GO's October Community Day Is Zorua

Niantic has set October's Community Day for Saturday, October 10, and the featured Pokémon is Zorua — the illusion fox whose entire gimmick, in the mainline games, is pretending to be something else.

The event runs the usual 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time, with Zorua flooding wild spawns for those three hours and an increased shiny rate on top. There is also a chance of catching Zorua with a Special Background, which is the cosmetic variant collectors tend to care about more than the shiny itself.

The move, and the window

Evolve a Zorua during the event — or within four hours after it ends — and the resulting Zoroark knows Sucker Punch as a Fast Attack. That is the part worth planning around, because Community Day exclusive moves are the only reliable way to get them without an Elite TM later.

A Fast Attack Sucker Punch on a Dark-type is a genuinely interesting proposition for GO Battle League. Zoroark has never been a league staple, largely because its movepool has not matched its stats. Handing it a hard-hitting fast move changes the maths somewhat.

The bonus stack

The three-hour window carries a fairly generous set of multipliers:

Two of those — the extra Special Trade and the reduced Stardust cost — stay active from 2:00 p.m. all the way to 9:00 p.m. local, as do Lure Modules. That extended tail is the sensible time to do your trading rather than burning event hours on it.

Niantic also notes that Zorua has a very high chance of appearing at PokeStops with an active Lure Module, which makes a lured cluster the most efficient place to spend the afternoon if you are hunting for a hundo.

The paid extras

The Community Day Special Research costs $1.99 and includes three Special Background Zorua encounters, further Zorua encounters, one Premium Battle Pass and one Rare Candy XL. There is a separate $1.99 Ultra Box bundling the event ticket with five Ultra Balls.

Free-to-play trainers still get Community Day-themed Field Research tasks rewarding Stardust, Ultra Balls and extra Zorua encounters, so the shiny hunt itself is not gated behind the ticket.

Why Zorua is a slightly odd pick

Zorua has had a complicated relationship with Pokémon GO. Its debut in 2022 leaned into the illusion mechanic by having it appear on the map disguised as your buddy Pokémon, which was thematically perfect and, in practice, a bug-riddled mess that Niantic spent weeks patching.

Giving it a Community Day four years later, with a straightforward spawn boost and no disguise trickery, reads like a quiet do-over — and a chance for trainers who bounced off that first rollout to actually build a decent Zoroark. Mark October 10.
