Replaced Brings Its Gorgeous Cyberpunk Pixel Art to Xbox and PC on April 14 With Day-One Game Pass

Sad Cat Studios' long-awaited cyberpunk 2.5D platformer Replaced launches April 14 on Xbox and PC with day-one Game Pass availability, bringing over 850,000 wishlists worth of hype to its pixel-art vision of an alternate 1980s America.

Replaced Brings Its Gorgeous Cyberpunk Pixel Art to Xbox and PC on April 14 With Day-One Game Pass

After years of development and a trail of jaw-dropping trailers, Replaced is finally arriving on April 14, 2026. The cyberpunk 2.5D action platformer from Sad Cat Studios has been one of the most wishlisted games on Steam for good reason: its blend of handcrafted pixel art and modern visual effects creates something that looks unlike anything else on the market.

An AI Trapped in a Human Body

Set in an alternate 1980s America scarred by nuclear catastrophe, Replaced puts players in the role of R.E.A.C.H., an artificial intelligence that has been forcibly implanted into a human body. The premise immediately raises questions about identity, consciousness, and what it means to be human, and the narrative leans into those themes as players uncover the sinister operations of the Phoenix Corporation.

The 2.5D perspective allows for some clever level design. Players can move between foreground and background layers to find hidden items, solve environmental puzzles, and discover alternate routes through the game's retro-futuristic cityscapes. It's a design choice that gives the game a genuine sense of depth that most side-scrollers lack.

Combat Meets Cinematic Flair

Replaced combines fluid melee combat with ranged attacks in a system that prioritizes responsiveness and style. Running, climbing, and sneaking all feed into the game's action sequences, which play out with a cinematic quality that matches the visual presentation. Finishing moves are particularly brutal, leaning into the game's mature themes with visceral animations.

REPLACED cyberpunk gameplay

The game has generated enormous anticipation during its development, with over 850,000 wishlist additions on Steam and 185,000 players trying out the free demo. Those numbers put it among the most anticipated indie releases of the year.

Day-One Game Pass and Demo Available

Replaced launches on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on April 14, and it will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. A free demo remains available on Steam for anyone who wants to try before they buy. For a game that has been in development since 2018, the finish line is finally in sight, and the pixel art faithful have every reason to be excited.

REPLACED is a breathtaking cyberpunk pixel-art experience that earns its long development through visual craft and narrative ambition rarely seen in the medium. Combat, platforming, and save system rough edges keep it from greatness, but what works here works at an exceptionally high level.
