Housemarque's Saros has gone gold and launches April 30 as a PS5 exclusive, featuring roguelite progression, bullet hell combat, and permanent upgrades across runs.

Housemarque's Saros Goes Gold Ahead of April 30 PS5 Launch

Housemarque has confirmed that Saros, its follow-up to the critically acclaimed Returnal, has gone gold ahead of its April 30, 2026 launch on PlayStation 5. The 1.0 build is locked and ready for day one, with no further delays expected.

Saros is a third-person action game that blends bullet hell combat, shooter mechanics, and roguelite progression into something the studio describes as a natural evolution of its design philosophy. Players control Soltari Enforcer Arjun Devraj, voiced by Rahul Kohli, as he investigates a lost off-world colony on the planet Carcosa. The narrative weaves through loop-based gameplay, but with a critical twist: death is not a reset. Permanent resources and progression carry over between runs, meaning every attempt moves the needle forward.

The combat builds on the kinetic, particle-heavy intensity Housemarque is known for, but scales it up considerably. Players build loadouts from an evolving set of weapons and suit parts, with encounters designed to push players toward creative improvisation rather than rote pattern memorization. Creative director Gregory Louden has confirmed PS5 Pro enhancements, taking full advantage of the hardware for visual fidelity and performance.

Saros is a PS5 console exclusive with no mention of a PC release. Given recent reports about PlayStation pulling back from simultaneous PC launches, Saros may stay exclusive for some time. Digital Deluxe Edition owners get 48-hour early access starting April 28, along with exclusive Enforcer armor sets.

With Returnal having earned both commercial success and critical praise after its PC port, expectations for Saros are high. Housemarque has proven it can deliver intense, mechanically rich action, and the question now is whether Carcosa can match the haunting atmosphere of Atropos.

Saros is the best game Housemarque has ever made and one of the defining PlayStation 5 exclusives of the generation. Its color-coded bullet ballet, eclipse-driven procedural design, persistent progression, and Rahul Kohli's career-best vocal performance combine into a roguelite that rewards both newcomers and Returnal veterans. The few rough edges — model fidelity in cinematics, hub navigation, an unforgiving learning curve — are easy to forgive once the bullet ballet clicks.
