Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Hits July 30 With 4K/60, a New Rare Blade, and Commandable Blades

One of the Switch era's most ambitious JRPGs is getting a glow-up. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition arrives digitally on July 30, 2026, with a physical release following on October 1. Monolith Soft's sprawling adventure across the cloud sea of Alrest has been rebuilt to take advantage of Nintendo's new hardware, and the upgrade is more than a simple resolution bump.

4K, 60fps, and Sharper Cutscenes

The headline improvement is performance. The Switch 2 Edition runs at 4K resolution and 60fps in TV mode, and 1080p/60fps in handheld, with noticeably smoother and sharper cutscenes. For a game whose vistas were always its calling card - and whose original Switch version often struggled to hold its frame rate - this is a transformative difference.

New Blades, New Battles

The edition isn't just a remaster. It adds a brand-new Rare Blade with its own Blade Quest, fresh equipment designs for Pyra and Mythra exclusive to this version, and amiibo support. The biggest gameplay addition is a new battle mode where you can directly command your Blades in mercenary squad-style battles - a meaningful twist on the game's already deep combat system.

Upgrade Path and Pricing

A new copy runs US$69.99 in either digital or physical form, but existing Switch owners aren't left out: a US$9.99 upgrade pack brings the enhancements to the version you already own. Nintendo is also giving Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna - The Golden Country a free Switch 2 update on the same day, pushing it to 4K/60 in TV mode. It's part of a broader Xenoblade trilogy revival on Switch 2 - and a great excuse to return to one of the generation's finest RPGs.
