Riot Games has one more surprise left in 2XKO. The free-to-play League of Legends tag fighter is adding Samira on October 27, as planned, and she is bringing company: Sett, the Boss of the Ionian fighting pits, joins the roster on the same day. Riot confirmed both with a gameplay reveal trailer on the official 2XKO channel early on October 8. That makes the launch a double act, not the single-champion farewell the studio had mapped out over the summer.
Why Sett is a surprise
When Riot announced in August that active development on 2XKO would end in December 2026, it laid out a short, firm runway. Lux would arrive in patch 1.3.1 on September 8, and Samira would follow in October as what the studio called the final champion. Sett was not part of that plan. Adding him alongside Samira means the closing roster grows by two in October instead of one, and it gives players a second fresh character to learn in the last stretch of the game's supported life.
The two make a natural pairing for a tag fighter built around duos. Samira is the Desert Rose, a Shuriman gunslinger who mixes pistols and a blade. Sett is a bare-knuckle brawler whose whole identity in League of Legends is about taking a hit and throwing it back harder. Both are among League's more aggressive, style-first champions, so they fit 2XKO's fast, assist-heavy combat.
What Riot has said about Samira's design
Riot has not yet published a full move list for either champion, and it typically follows a reveal trailer with a dedicated Champion Spotlight and move list video, as it did for Lux. What the team has shared is its intent for Samira. In a roadmap post in late August, the developers said her main goal is to "unleash creativity". She is built around open-ended offense and free-form routing, and she rewards players who find original combos rather than following a fixed script. The team summed her up as roughly the polar opposite of a zoner, which suggests a character who wants to be in her opponent's face rather than controlling space from range.
Riot has said nothing comparable about Sett's design yet. Expect a spotlight for him before October 27, if the studio follows the Lux pattern.
Patch 1.3.3 and the late-October update
The October 27 date lines up with the late-October window Riot gave for patch 1.3.3, the update it had already tied to Samira's arrival. According to that roadmap, 1.3.3 is a stability and polish patch rather than a balance overhaul. Patch 1.3.1 was billed as the last major balance pass, and the team said it would not take any big swings in October. The roadmap also listed:
- 35 new skins, all of which go into the 2XKO Ultimate Bundle, which covers every skin in the game for $40.
- A fix to let the large Private lobby use training mode.
- General bug fixing, tweaks and final polish on the new champion.
After 1.3.3, Riot has planned only an optional patch 1.3.5 in early December, limited to bug fixes. That is effectively the end of the update road, so Samira and Sett will be the last characters to join the roster under active development.
Where 2XKO goes after December
Ending active development does not mean switching the game off. Riot has said 2XKO's servers will stay online beyond 2026 to support online play, and that offline modes are unaffected. If that changes, it has promised to give advance notice. The studio has also unlocked all gameplay content for everyone, and it is refunding purchases of KO Points and the Starter Edition made on or before August 20. Players keep any content they already own. Riot expects all PC refunds to be paid out by November 2026. Japan and Korea servers follow local law.
The game remains free to download on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The competitive calendar keeps going
The new champions also land in the middle of a busy run of tournaments. Evo France, one of the scene's Major events, runs from October 9 to 11, and Riot published a players-to-watch trailer for it just hours before the Samira and Sett reveal. Samira and Sett arrive after that event, so they won't appear there. Later in the year, Battle Coliseum is a Major on November 21 and 22, and MINDSET 2026, a Challenger event, runs from November 27 to 29. Those will be the first big brackets where both new champions are legal, so they will offer an early read on how much Samira's free-form offense and Sett's brawling shake up a meta that will stay mostly frozen after December.
When to play
Samira and Sett arrive in 2XKO on October 27 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The reveal trailer is up now on the official 2XKO YouTube channel. A full breakdown of both kits should follow in the run-up to launch.
