Arknights: Endfield's next version has a name and a date. Gryphline has confirmed that Sanctuary of Ink arrives on October 15, and that the same day the game finally opens on Steam, joining the existing PC launcher, Epic Games Store, PS5, iOS and Android builds. For anyone already playing on a phone, the Steam launch matters more than it looks: progress is shared across platforms, so your Talos-II save can follow you to a desktop without starting over.
A story told inside a painting
The new main story chapter sends the Endministrator into a world painted by Si, a Proxy from Feranmut. The party ends up at the Yuanyuan Manor inn, which sits inside her landscape, and unsettling events in the surrounding mountains drag everyone into a mystery rooted in something that happened a decade ago. Si's brush is the hook here. Instead of only fighting through the painted world, you redraw it: lines become bridges across gaps, broken routes get repainted, and parts of the scenery respond when you work on them. The residents of the painting are not all happy about visitors, so the sightseeing does not stay peaceful for long.

Two new operators: Si and Argent Flow
Si also joins the roster as a playable operator, and her kit is built around a mechanic Gryphline calls Inksoul. She pulls Inksoul out of enemies and redirects damage and effects back onto them, which lets her keep pressure on a target even after it has left her reach. She also buffs teammates who use Cryo and Heat, so she slots most naturally into teams already built around those two elements.
The second newcomer is Argent Flow, an old acquaintance of the Endministrator who fights on horseback with both a sword and a spear. His ultimate turns into a mounted charge that ends in a heavy aerial finishing blow. A separate narrative event digs into his past and why he keeps such a calm front, so expect his banner and his story to land close together.
Farming, an inn, and a harder Contingency Contract
Between fights, Sanctuary of Ink adds a management side activity at the inn. You grow crops, raise animals, cook for guests and reinvest what you earn into expanding both the farm and the inn. An Auto-Farmer function takes care of some of the routine work, which should help on mobile where long play sessions are less common.
For players who want a challenge, the Contingency Contract mode returns with the Indigo Experimental Operation. You pick modifiers that cut both ways, strengthening your own team while adding restrictions. Some of them rewrite the usual rules for combo skills and give enemies new attack patterns, so builds that cleared earlier contracts will not necessarily carry over unchanged.

Quality-of-life changes
The update also brings a set of smaller fixes that players have been asking for. You can now save equipment loadouts, set the priority of combo skills, and place field equipment directly from depot storage instead of moving it around by hand first. Mouse targeting is also more precise, which matters for the upcoming PC launch. None of these will sell the update on their own, but they cut down on the menu work that piles up the longer you play.
Music gets attention too. The Sanctuary of Ink soundtrack includes contributions from Zhai Jinyan, known for his work on Black Myth: Wukong, Death Stranding composer Ludvig Forssell, and the bands 8:48 and Crywolf.
Steam launch and cross-progression
Arknights: Endfield's Steam release is set for the same day as the update. The US storefront currently lists the date as October 14, which is consistent with the update going live in Asian time zones. Gryphline's Steam playtest earlier this autumn ran on the live servers with account data synced across every platform, and the full release keeps that setup. That means mobile players can log into the Steam version and pick up where they left off.
For anyone planning to make the jump, the requirements Gryphline published for that Steam test call for at least an Intel Core i5-9400F, 16GB of RAM and a GeForce GTX 1060 on Windows 10 or 11. The recommended setup is an i7-10700K with an RTX 2060. Storage is the main thing to watch: the game wants 50GB free, plus another 40GB of temporary space while files are extracted, and an SSD is recommended.

Free rewards before the update lands
There is something to claim right now as well. Gryphline's New Version Guide page for Sanctuary of Ink went live on October 6 at 20:00 (UTC+8). Log in there with an account that has finished character creation and you can claim 1,000 Oroberyl, 10,000 T-Creds, eight Elementary Cognitive Carriers and four Arms INSP Sets, delivered to your in-game mail. The claim window closes when maintenance for the Sanctuary of Ink update begins, and each account can claim only once, so it is worth doing before October 15.
