Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game Delays Its Xbox Version Just 13 Hours Before Launch

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game launched July 23 on PS5, PC, and Switch - but the Xbox Series X|S version was pulled with almost no warning, delayed six weeks to September 3 over what the team called 'unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature.' The Switch version also shipped without crossplay.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game Delays Its Xbox Version Just 13 Hours Before Launch

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game launched on July 23, 2026 - mostly. PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch players got their copies on schedule, but Xbox Series X|S owners were left staring at a pre-load screen that never turned into a release. The publisher pulled the Xbox version with almost no warning, posting the delay to the game's official X account just 13 hours before the scheduled 7am PT launch.

What Happened, in the Team's Own Words

The statement from the team behind the game - PM Studios, Paramount Games, and Gameplay Group International - was short and short on specifics: "Due to unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature, we will now launch by September 3." That's a six-week delay for one platform, announced with barely half a day's notice to players who had cleared their schedules around the original date.

There's at least one piece of good news for anyone who already committed: existing Xbox pre-orders will remain active and will not be cancelled, according to the team.

Switch Isn't Fully Spared Either

The Xbox version wasn't the only rough edge at launch. The Nintendo Switch release did arrive on time, but shipped as Standard Edition only, with no crossplay against other platforms, no language localization beyond English, and without the Deluxe Edition's Year 1 pass, digital soundtrack, and digital artbook. The publisher says those pieces are coming "as soon as possible," without a firm date.

Why It Matters

A last-minute, single-platform delay is always a bad look, but the timing here - hours, not days, before launch - is the part stinging Xbox players the most. Fighting games live and die by day-one momentum and a shared launch-week community, and Avatar Legends now has to try to rebuild some of that excitement from scratch for its Xbox audience in September, well after the conversation around the PS5, PC, and Switch versions has already moved on.
