Ball x Pit's Free Shadow Update Drops Today with Time-Bending Powers and New Characters

Ball x Pit's second major content drop is here. The Shadow Update lands today, April 27, as a free expansion across PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch, bringing two new characters, 11 new balls with unique evolution paths, four new passives, and a brand-new building that lets players re-roll previously chosen character upgrades.

The theme this time? Time itself. Several of the new ball evolutions freeze it, warp it, and bend it to your advantage in ways the roguelite has not explored before.

Two New Characters

The Tunneller fires screen-wrapping projectiles that loop around the arena, hitting enemies from unexpected angles and creating chaotic chain reactions. The Tiptoer takes a completely different approach with stealth-based ninja mechanics, rewarding players who time their attacks from the shadows.

Both characters add new strategic layers to a game that already rewards creative ball management and positioning.

Time-Warping Ball Evolutions

The standout additions are the new ball types that manipulate time. Venom stacks poison with each hit, slowing targets and chipping away at their health until enough buildup triggers paralysis, locking enemies in place. Time drops a timesnare field that freezes any enemies caught in its radius, creating devastating area-control opportunities.

Erosion is perhaps the nastiest of the bunch, cutting through foes with percentage-based health damage on each hit. The harder the enemy, the more damage Erosion deals — making it a top pick against bosses and elite encounters.

The Guildhall

The new building is the Guildhall, which gives players the ability to re-roll character upgrades they have already locked in. It is a quality-of-life addition that reduces the sting of an early bad pick and adds another decision point to each run.
