GungHo Online Entertainment - the company behind Puzzle & Dragons and Ragnarok Online - has announced B.L.U.E. NOVA, a free-to-play cooperative third-person shooter for PC. It is coming in 2027, and its central idea is one no other shooter is really building around: the game rewards you for bumping into strangers.
The Super Teaser PV went up overnight on the game's official channel, alongside a Steam page and a full website. It is entirely PvE - there is no competitive mode in the announcement at all - and the structure scales from a single player up to thirty on one battlefield.
The R.I.N.G. is the whole pitch
You drop in alone. As you move across the map you run into other players who dropped in alone too, and stepping into a ring with them activates what GungHo calls Unlimited Attack - a large stat buff and, more to the point, infinite ammo with no reloading. Build the ring out with more players and the group unlocks a shared Ultimate.
It is a neat inversion of how most co-op shooters handle strangers. Instead of a lobby that assembles a squad before the match and punishes you for straying, B.L.U.E. NOVA makes the encounter itself the mechanic: an automatic ally-searching system nudges you toward other people, and the reward for converging is that everyone stops worrying about their magazine.
Tower Raid, Boss Raid and Challenge
Three modes have been detailed so far. Tower Raid is the headline: up to thirty players land solo, find each other across the map, grind through hordes of mechanical infantry and Barrier Towers, and converge on the Master Tower at the centre of the battlefield. Boss Raid is the tighter one - a six-player task force against a single high-difficulty enemy. Challenge covers the rotating material: areas that only open on certain days or at certain hours, plus speedrun objectives.
A rogue terraforming AI, and a roster of mercenaries
The setting is the year 2200. A predicted superflare has made Earth uninhabitable, so humanity has been relocating to Deval, a planet with an almost identical environment. The AI managing that development, EVE, went rogue and turned the colony's machinery into an army called Singula. The world's remaining militaries pooled what they had left into the United Special Forces, and the USF hires heroes - which is to say mercenaries, which is to say you.
The hero roster is where GungHo's character-game instincts show. Seraphy is a former field medic turned support sniper who values her allies' survival over her own objectives. Rico is a twin-pistol user with a second personality and a habit of talking herself out of confidence. JJ is a streamer who joined the front line for the views and treats charm as a weapon. Logi is a mechanical engineer whose stated philosophy is to eat a lot, sleep, and assume things will work out. Each has distinct skills, a personal Ultimate, and a skin line.
The free-to-play question
The Steam listing confirms in-app purchases, single-player, online co-op, full controller support including DualSense features, and Free To Play as its stated genre alongside Action. GungHo has not detailed the monetisation model beyond that, and with skins called out repeatedly across the official material, cosmetics look like the intended lane.
There is no beta or playtest date yet. B.L.U.E. NOVA is listed as coming in 2027 for PC, with a Steam page live for wishlisting now.
