Digimon Story: Time Stranger Rolls Out a Free Update July 9 and Lands on Switch 2 July 10 - Terriermon Assistant, Photo Mode and Enhanced Graphics Modes for Everyone

Tamers on every platform are about to get a present. Digimon Story: Time Stranger — which launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC back in October 2025 — is rolling out a free content update on July 9, 2026, one day before the RPG makes its debut on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on July 10. Bandai Namco is treating the Switch arrival as a moment to give the whole player base something new at once.

The July 9 update is available to everyone regardless of platform. Its marquee addition is a playable Terriermon Assistant, joining the roster of a game that already boasts more than 450 collectible, trainable Digimon. Alongside it comes a proper Photo Mode for capturing your favorite partners during field exploration, plus a new graphics-mode selection option that hands players more control over how the game looks and runs.

Built for Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 version isn't a simple port. It ships with two dedicated display options: a Quality Mode targeting 4K with HDR at up to 30 FPS, and a Performance Mode running at 1080p up to 60 FPS. A demo is already live on both Switch and Switch 2, and progress carries over — you can try the opening hours now and transfer your save data straight into the full release.

A story spanning two worlds

Developed by Media.Vision, Time Stranger sends players across the boundary between the human world and the Digital World in a time-bending adventure with the fate of both hanging in the balance. Deep customization, a sprawling monster-taming loop and a dense roster have made it one of the more ambitious entries the series has attempted, and the Switch 2 launch finally makes that adventure portable.

Whether you've been playing since October or you're waiting to dive in handheld on Switch 2, the takeaway is the same: mark July 9 for the free update and July 10 for the Nintendo launch. Terriermon is ready to assist.
