Arrakis is opening up to a much bigger crowd. Dune: Awakening, Funcom's open-world survival MMO, comes to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22, 2026, revealed via a new Console Announcement Story Trailer at the June State of Play - and the same day brings a major update for every platform.
A console launch with a single-player mode
The September 22 update is more than a port. It adds a full single-player mode with scalable difficulty and game-customization options across all platforms, and it drops the final Act that concludes the game's Book One story, letting newcomers experience the whole arc from beginning to dramatic end. On Xbox the game launches into Game Pass and is fully Play Anywhere enabled, with shared progression and cross-play between Xbox and the Microsoft Store.
An alternate Dune timeline
The story trailer, narrated by Paul Atreides, leans into Awakening's what-if premise: an alternate timeline in which Lady Jessica gives birth to a daughter, Ariste, House Atreides survives under Duke Leto's leadership, and the great houses are drawn into a brutal War of Assassins with House Harkonnen over control of the spice. Pre-orders are live across a .99 standard edition, a .99 Deluxe and an .99 Ultimate, ahead of the September 22 arrival.
