Twenty-five years after Tidus first washed up on the shores of Besaid, Final Fantasy X is getting another home. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on July 23, 2026 - a release timed squarely to the original game's 25th anniversary, and the downloadable version arrives first, with a packaged retail edition following on August 27.
Two Classics, One Package
As with previous re-releases, the Switch 2 edition bundles both Final Fantasy X and its direct sequel Final Fantasy X-2 together. Character, monster, and background art have been remade in full HD with a significant resolution jump, and the soundtrack has been fully remastered and re-arranged - the same presentation that made the original HD Remaster collection a fan favorite, now tuned for Nintendo's new hardware.
New Switch 2-Exclusive Quality-of-Life Features
This isn't just a straight port. The Switch 2 version adds a long-requested high-speed mode for breezing through grinding and backtracking, plus a toggle to disable random encounters entirely - a feature that will let players revisit Spira's story without wading through every random Sinspawn fight along the way. Pre-orders are live now at $49.99 - matching the price of the existing Switch 1 release, so Nintendo's newest console isn't getting charged a premium for the upgrade. The announcement came out of Nintendo's June 2026 Summer Game Fest Direct, and Square Enix has been marking the anniversary with a wave of related merchandise, including new arrangement soundtracks, art books, and plushes.
