Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Gets a $34.99 Expansion Pass, and Wave 1 Is Out Now

Nintendo has announced a three-wave Expansion Pass for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. Wave 1's Three Houses-inspired relic weapons are out now, three recruitable gods follow this holiday, and new stories arrive in 2027.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Gets a $34.99 Expansion Pass, and Wave 1 Is Out Now

Nintendo and Intelligent Systems have announced a paid Expansion Pass for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, and its first part is already live. The pass costs $34.99 on the Nintendo eShop for Switch 2 and delivers its content in three waves: weapons now, new allies and outfits over the holidays, and new story content in 2027. It was revealed with a short announcement trailer on Nintendo's official channels, less than a month after the strategy RPG launched on September 17.

What the Expansion Pass costs, and how it works

The Expansion Pass is a single purchase. According to Nintendo's eShop listing, the waves cannot be bought individually: you pay $34.99 once and each wave unlocks as it releases. You also need the full base game, which is sold separately.

That structure will be familiar to anyone who bought the Expansion Pass for Fire Emblem Engage on the original Switch, which also split its content into waves and saved its largest story addition for last. Fortune's Weave follows the same pattern, front-loading quick gear and back-loading the content that takes longest to build.

Wave 1: Three Houses relics, out now

The first wave is available now and is the smallest of the three. It adds prototype weapons for four heroes, and Nintendo describes them as modelled after the Heroes' Relics from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. In Three Houses, the relics were the legendary weapons tied to the Crests and the noble houses of Fódlan, so the nod is aimed squarely at fans of the 2019 game, which is still one of the best-selling entries in the series.

It is also not the first time Fortune's Weave has reached into the series' back catalogue. The game's day-one update already added special weapons drawn from earlier Fire Emblem titles, so Wave 1 extends a thread that has run through the game since launch rather than introducing a new one. What it does not add is new maps, new characters or new story. Players who buy the pass today are mainly paying for the two waves still to come.

Wave 2: three gods join the fight this holiday

Wave 2 is due during the 2026 holiday season, and it is where the pass starts to add new characters. Nintendo's listing names three gods, Aurora, Smyrnos and Jurah, who can be recruited and fielded in battle. The same wave also brings new wearable outfits.

The announcement art puts one of these divine figures front and centre: a pale-haired, elf-eared woman in a white and violet robe, holding a glowing orb between her hands. Nintendo has not yet given an exact date for the wave, or detailed what classes or skills the three gods will bring to a squad. Given how Fire Emblem tends to handle late-game recruits, expect them to arrive as powerful units rather than characters you need to train up.

Wave 3: new stories in 2027

The third and final wave is scheduled for 2027 and is the main reason to buy the pass. Nintendo says it adds new stories featuring Bertrand, Talimun, Orchel and Anatolia, along with new allies to recruit and new classes to unlock. No release window more specific than the year has been given.

That leaves the biggest part of the pass at least several months away, and the exact scale of those stories, whether a single side campaign or a set of separate chapters, is still unknown. Nintendo's trailer frames the whole pass as a way to continue the journey through the Dagdan Empire, the setting of the base game, so the new chapters look set to stay on the same continent rather than open up a new map.

Who should buy it now

For players already deep into Fortune's Weave, the decision is mostly about Wave 3. Wave 1's relic-inspired weapons are a pleasant extra, but on their own they are not worth $34.99. The pass becomes a better deal if you plan to keep playing into next year and want new story content and recruits once you finish the main campaign.

If you are still undecided about the base game, there is no penalty for waiting. Because the waves are only sold as a bundle and the content unlocks on Nintendo's schedule, buying the pass early does not give you anything beyond the first wave until the holidays. Picking it up closer to Wave 2 or Wave 3 gets you the same content for the same price.

The bigger picture

Fortune's Weave is the first new Fire Emblem built for Switch 2, and an Expansion Pass announced within a month of launch shows Nintendo intends to support it well into 2027. The series has used this approach before. Fire Emblem: Three Houses received its Cindered Shadows side story through a paid pass, and Engage's Fell Xenologue arrived the same way. A year-long roadmap also helps keep a single-player strategy game in the conversation during a holiday season crowded with much larger releases.

The Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Expansion Pass is available now on the Nintendo eShop for Switch 2 at $34.99, and requires the base game.
