Little Nightmares III's The Shores DLC Is Out Now, and It Floods the Town

Supermassive and Bandai Namco's second Little Nightmares III expansion sends Low and Alone through a flooded seaside town, past leeches and into drowned sewers. It costs $7.99 or comes with the Secrets of The Spiral pass.

Little Nightmares III's The Shores DLC Is Out Now, and It Floods the Town

Little Nightmares III's second story expansion, The Shores, is out now. Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco released the chapter on September 29, and it drops Low and Alone into a flooded, fog-bound seaside town where the only way forward is toward a distant lighthouse. On Steam the DLC sells on its own for $7.99, and it is also the second of the two chapters in the Secrets of The Spiral Expansion Pass.

Where The Shores picks up

The expansion opens with Low and Alone back together after passing through a mirror. The official description is explicit that Dime, who travelled with the pair in the previous chapter, is no longer with them, so this is once again a story about two children. They arrive somewhere the developer describes through smell and texture as much as sight: filthy stones, the stink of fish, a damp wind off the water, and a fog so thick that the sweep of the lighthouse beam is the one reliable landmark.

That lighthouse is the goal. According to Supermassive's own framing, Low's map says the way out lies at the top of it, and the tagline treats that promise with the series' usual suspicion: "It must be true." Anyone who has played a Little Nightmares game knows how much weight a line like that carries.

The setting is a clear change of mood from The Backstage, the first chapter of the pass, which arrived in June and kept to the cramped, theatrical interiors behind a stage. The Shores trades that for an open, waterlogged townscape, and the official screenshots lean heavily on the grey-green palette of a harbour at night.

A town the sea has taken

The streets Low and Alone walk through are empty and partly underwater. Houses stand abandoned, alleys are flooded, and the developer's description puts it simply: the hungry sea is in charge here. The screenshots show a pier lined with barrels and bollards, fishing nets hanging from rickety waterfront houses, and at least one enormous, slumped figure holding a fishing rod at the edge of the boardwalk, the kind of grotesque adult the series has always used as its antagonists.

The co-op puzzle-solving carries over: in this shot the pair are shoving a crate through a flooded, lamp-lit backstreet.

The co-op structure of the base game is still in place. Little Nightmares III was built around two characters working together, either with a friend online or alongside an AI partner, and The Shores keeps that format: one of the official images shows the pair shoving a heavy crate together across a wet cobbled street under a single hanging lamp.

Leeches, and the thing that tends them

The new threat is leeches. Flooded streets turn out to be ideal breeding ground for them, and the developer says they will go after anything that wanders within reach. They are not left to themselves, either: Supermassive describes a creature called The Leech Monster whose looming presence hangs over the town and who seems to care for the swarms.

The DLC's own section heading for this part is "Run away from the leeches," which suggests the familiar Little Nightmares rhythm of hiding, sneaking and then sprinting when a hiding place fails. The studio warns that anyone who strays too close is unlikely to escape.

The leeches in motion: a writhing carpet of them spreads across the floorboards as the pair run for the far side of the room.

One last breath

Reaching the lighthouse means going under. The final stretch sends Low and Alone into the town's sewers, where water still rushes through open pipes, and the official description lists the hazards waiting there: cracking valves, sharp propellers and fully submerged rooms. The heading for this part, "Take one last breath," makes clear that holding your breath is part of the challenge, with the developer saying these sections will demand every second of air and every ounce of strength the pair have.

Swimming is new territory for the pair. Here they dive through a flooded storeroom, with only a thin pocket of air left under the ceiling.

Underwater traversal is a notable addition. Water has mostly been a hazard in the series rather than a space to move through, and one of the official screenshots shows both children swimming through a flooded storeroom packed with crates and old suitcases, with only a narrow gap of air left beneath a caged ceiling light.

Price, platforms and the Expansion Pass

The Shores is available on every platform Little Nightmares III itself is on: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC, through both Steam and the Microsoft Store. The standalone Steam price is $7.99.

It is also part of the Secrets of The Spiral Expansion Pass, which bundles The Shores with The Backstage and an exclusive costume set. Bandai Namco's store page carries a clear warning here: anyone who already owns the pass should not buy The Shores separately, as they would be paying twice for the same content.

With both chapters now out, the Secrets of The Spiral pass is complete, rounding off the post-launch story plans Supermassive set out for Little Nightmares III. Whether the studio has more planned for Low and Alone beyond this has not been announced.
