Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Reveals Phoenix Cyclops as Its First DLC Character - Plus an Open Beta Live Right Now

Arc System Works used San Diego Comic-Con to reveal Phoenix Cyclops, drawing on the Avengers vs. X-Men Phoenix Five arc, as the first Year 1 DLC fighter for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. The base game launches August 6 on PS5 and PC, and an open beta is live right now through July 26.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Reveals Phoenix Cyclops as Its First DLC Character - Plus an Open Beta Live Right Now

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls used its San Diego Comic-Con spotlight to look past its own launch. Developer Arc System Works revealed on July 23, 2026 that Phoenix Cyclops will be the tag fighter's first Year 1 DLC character, arriving after the base game's August 6 debut on PS5 and PC.

Straight Out of Avengers vs. X-Men

This isn't the Cyclops most players know. The design draws directly from the Phoenix Five storyline in Avengers vs. X-Men, fusing Scott Summers' signature Optic Blasts and sharp hand-to-hand combat with the cosmic power of the Phoenix Force itself. Producer Takeshi Yamanaka confirmed the pick directly: "Phoenix Cyclops (voiced by Ray Chase), will be the first additional character joining MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls as part of Year 1 content." Chase already voices the character across X-Men '97, Marvel Rivals, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion, giving the reveal a consistent through-line for fans tracking the actor's growing Marvel resume.

Part of a Bigger Year 1 Pack

Phoenix Cyclops is confirmed as the first of four characters planned for the Year 1 DLC pack, which is also set to include a new stage and a fresh set of result-screen victory poses. Arc System Works hasn't detailed his specific move set yet, promising more gameplay specifics in a future update - for now, the studio is simply teasing that he'll "bring the heat."

An Open Beta Is Live Right Now

Comic-Con weekend wasn't just about the DLC. Arc System Works also confirmed an open beta running July 24-26, 2026 on both PS5 and PC - meaning it's playable this exact weekend for anyone who wants a hands-on look before launch. Sweetening the pot further, Sony confirmed a free Wolverine Battle Reborn suit will be available starting September 1.

Why It Matters

Announcing your first DLC character and a genuinely novel take on an established hero two weeks before launch is a confident move, and it signals Arc System Works is treating Tokon as a long-term platform rather than a one-and-done release. For a fighting game genre where post-launch character support increasingly decides whether a title sticks around, leading with a Phoenix Force-powered Cyclops - and a playable beta the same weekend - is a strong opening argument.
