Marvel's Wolverine Used D23 to Show Its Villain Bench - Sentinels, Omega Red and Bolivar Trask, One Month Out

Insomniac closed its D23 2026 slot with a short Marvel's Wolverine sizzle that finally names the opposition: Bolivar Trask narrating over Sentinels, Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, Mystique and Sabretooth. The PS5 exclusive launches September 15, 2026.

Marvel's Wolverine Used D23 to Show Its Villain Bench - Sentinels, Omega Red and Bolivar Trask, One Month Out

Insomniac Games had 42 seconds at D23 2026 and used every one of them. The studio's Marvel's Wolverine sizzle did not show a new mission, a new mechanic or a new suit - it showed the roster of people Logan is going to have to go through, and it let one of them do the talking.

The game launches September 15, 2026, exclusively on PS5. That is under a month away, which makes this less a reveal and more a closing argument.

Trask is the voice, and the Sentinels are the point

The framing device is Bolivar Trask narrating. That is a deliberate choice: Trask is not a brawler, he is an industrialist with a funding pipeline and a public-relations strategy, and building the trailer around his voice signals that the Sentinel program is the spine of the story rather than a third-act surprise. Sentinels flash through the cut repeatedly.

Around him, the sizzle runs its bench: Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, Mystique and Sabretooth all appear, alongside the cybernetic mercenaries of the Reavers. The Hand - already established in the July story trailer - are back too. PlayStation's own summary spells out the stakes plainly: mutants face imminent extinction, and Logan, Jean Grey and the members of Team X have to travel the globe to stop it.

That is a notably larger canvas than the game was originally pitched on. Early material leaned hard on the Canadian wilderness and a grounded, personal revenge story. What D23 showed is closer to an X-Men ensemble plot with Wolverine at the centre of it - Jean Grey is a co-lead, Team X is a unit rather than a flashback, and the antagonist is a defence contractor with government backing.

The Battle Reborn suit, inspired by MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls

The crossover suit, the comic and the soundtrack

The surrounding package has been filling in over the past few weeks. Insomniac is bundling a suit inspired by MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls - the classic yellow-and-blue, rendered in that game's cel-shaded style - as a day-one unlock, with a reciprocal Wolverine suit arriving free in Fighting Souls on September 1. There is a digital prequel comic covering Logan's history with Team X, and David Fleming's score releases August 28. Liam McIntyre plays Wolverine; Krizia Bajos plays Jean Grey.

A crowded September

Wolverine is landing in the middle of a genuinely stacked month, and it is doing it as a single-player, story-driven, PS5-only release at full price - a shape the industry has spent two years being told is too expensive to keep making. Insomniac is one of the few studios still shipping them on schedule, and this is the third they have delivered on the PS5 generation.

Pre-orders are live on the PlayStation Store for the standard and digital deluxe editions. After four years of teasers, a leak, a delay and a full State of Play, there is not much left to show. September 15 is the answer.
