Marvel's Wolverine Gets a Story Trailer and a Secret Prequel Comic at SDCC 2026

Insomniac used its SDCC 2026 Hall H panel to drop a new story trailer for Marvel's Wolverine, confirming The Hand and Lady Deathstrike as threats, and quietly released an exclusive prequel comic detailing Logan's history with Team X. The PS5 exclusive launches September 15.

Insomniac Games used San Diego Comic-Con 2026's Hall H to give Marvel's Wolverine its biggest spotlight yet. During the Deep Cuts panel, the studio's creative leads - joined by cast members Liam McIntyre (Logan/Wolverine) and Krizia Bajos (Jean Grey) - debuted a new story trailer and confirmed the PlayStation 5 exclusive's September 15, 2026 release date.

Logan's Past Catches Up With Him

The trailer centers on Logan rediscovering his identity after time away from Team X, with his past and present colliding across the story. It confirms The Hand as a major enemy faction and Lady Deathstrike as one of the game's primary antagonists, alongside a reluctant, uneasy alliance with Sabretooth - and teases further confrontations with Omega Red and others.

A Secret Prequel Comic, Hiding in Plain Sight

Alongside the trailer, Insomniac quietly released an exclusive prequel comic at SDCC, written by the studio's own Narrative Director Walt Williams, with art by Luke Ross and a cover by Iban Coello. The comic digs into Logan's complicated history with his former Team X comrades and sets up the mutant-protection stakes the full game will build on. It was handed out as a physical giveaway at Marvel's SDCC booth and is also readable now through Marvel Unlimited.

A Score Built for a Global Journey

Composer David Fleming is scoring the game, with music designed to shift dynamically alongside Logan's journey around the world. The full soundtrack releases separately on August 28, 2026 across Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music - three weeks ahead of the game itself.

There's also a nice bit of cross-game synergy: a Wolverine suit from MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls unlocks in Marvel's Wolverine as a Day 1 progression reward, while Marvel's Wolverine's own Battle Reborn suit comes free to Tokon players starting September 1.

Why It Matters

Between a trailer that finally puts names to its villain roster, a genre-crossing tie-in comic, and a composer-led marketing beat of its own, Insomniac is running Marvel's Wolverine's promotional campaign like a prestige release rather than just another superhero tie-in. With September 15 now locked in, the countdown to one of PlayStation's most anticipated exclusives is officially on.
