Atlus' multi-award-winning fantasy RPG is heading to a new home. At the June 9 Nintendo Direct, the studio confirmed that Metaphor: ReFantazio will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 12, 2026, bringing one of 2024's most celebrated role-playing games to Nintendo hardware for the first time.
The announcement arrived with a new trailer showing the game running on Switch 2, and Atlus is pairing the launch with a limited Steelbook Edition for collectors. It is a notable expansion for a title that originally released across PlayStation, Xbox and PC, and a strong get for the Switch 2's growing library of heavyweight JRPGs.
Created by the core team behind Persona 3, 4 and 5 - director Katsura Hashino, character designer Shigenori Soejima and composer Shoji Meguro - Metaphor: ReFantazio swaps modern Japan for the fantastical United Kingdom of Euchronia, where you travel the realm to lift a curse on a slumbering prince and win a magically enforced royal election.

Archetypes and the press-turn battle system
In place of Persona's masks, Metaphor uses Archetypes - job-like classes drawn from the party's anxieties and ideals that can be swapped and combined mid-battle. Combat fuses real-time action for clearing weak enemies with a turn-based command layer that revives the series' beloved weakness-exploiting press-turn system, letting prepared players chain extra actions and end tough fights quickly.

A new audience on Switch 2
Metaphor: ReFantazio was a critical darling on release, sweeping RPG of the Year honours and shipping over a million copies in its first day. The Switch 2 edition positions it as a portable showcase RPG just ahead of the holidays, and the Steelbook gives long-time Atlus fans a reason to double dip. Expect more on pre-orders and any bonus content as November 12 draws closer.
