Minecraft Live came back to a convention stage for the first time since MINECON 2016 — and it brought a lot with it. Broadcast live from TwitchCon Rotterdam 2026 on May 30, the showcase confirmed a release date for the next big game drop, revealed a brand-new biome and mob, dished out fresh details on Minecraft Dungeons II, and even teased a movie sequel.
Here’s everything Mojang packed into this year’s May broadcast.
Chaos Cubed drops June 16
The headline news: the Chaos Cubed update — Java Edition 26.2 and Bedrock Edition 26.30 — arrives on June 16, 2026. Its centerpiece is the new Sulfur Caves biome, an underground environment drenched in warm yellow-and-red lighting and built around a fresh family of sulfur and cinnabar blocks. It’s gorgeous, but it’s also dangerous: the caves are dotted with bubbling sulfur pools that release noxious fumes, and lingering in one inflicts the disorienting Nausea effect.
Meet the Sulfur Cube
Spawning exclusively in those caves is the update’s standout new mob, the Sulfur Cube. This squishy passive creature can absorb nearby blocks and inherit their properties, completely changing how it moves. Feed it wool and it bounces around like a beach ball; give it ice and it skids across the floor like a hockey puck; other blocks let it slide, float in water, or behave in entirely new ways. It’s one of the most physics-driven mobs Mojang has ever designed, and a clear invitation for players to experiment.
A new biome on the horizon: the Dappled Forest
Mojang also gave an early look at the third game drop of 2026, which is themed around exploration, adventure, and playing together with friends. Leading the charge is the Dappled Forest, a rust-toned woodland filled with tall poplar trees and red shrubs — a striking new overworld setting to wander with your friends once it arrives later in the year.
Minecraft Dungeons II and a LEGO crossover
The action-RPG sequel Minecraft Dungeons II got more screen time, including a first look at a fearsome new foe: the Twisted Warden. The game remains on track for fall 2026. The LEGO Group joined in too, unveiling set 21591, The Twisted Warden Battle — a 438-piece Minecraft Dungeons II set priced at $59.99 and launching August 1, 2026 — alongside a free in-game add-on, LEGO Minecraft Chicken Mounts, that turns your chickens into rideable mounts with 15 customizable variants.
And one more thing: a movie sequel
To cap the show, Mojang confirmed that the follow-up to last year’s blockbuster A Minecraft Movie is officially in the works — cheekily titled A Minecraft Movie Squared. Between a dated update, a wild new mob, a sequel dungeon-crawler, LEGO tie-ins, and a returning film franchise, this was one of the busiest Minecraft Live broadcasts in years.
