One of the most intriguing action-RPGs on the horizon just gave fans a date to circle. Anima: Song from the Abyss has resurfaced with a brand-new Release Window Trailer, confirming that developer Anima Project's ambitious adventure will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam in 2027.
Set in the acclaimed universe of the Anima: Beyond Fantasy tabletop RPG, the game promises a deep, narrative-driven journey built around two playable protagonists, fluid real-time combat and a handcrafted world stuffed with secrets, danger and unforgettable characters.
The trailer sets the stage with a disaster in the skies. Soren, the last surviving knight aboard an imperial zeppelin transporting a powerful relic from a forgotten civilization, finds himself stranded when the crew mysteriously vanishes. In freeing a legendary entity from that relic, he unwittingly unleashes a catastrophe that sends the airship plunging into the Abyss.
Two souls, one journey
That freed being is Noein, an enigmatic entity who offers Soren a chance at survival in exchange for help uncovering the truth behind the song that erased an ancient civilization. The pair form the heart of the game: players can switch between the two distinct characters on the fly, each with their own abilities and combat style, in what Anima Project describes as “dynamic gameplay.”
Fast combat, deep systems
Under the hood is “a deep and intuitive combat system that fuses fast-paced real-time action with RPG elements.” Beyond the swordplay, players can forge weapons, unlock and customize abilities, level up, and explore a series of interconnected, handcrafted areas punctuated by epic boss battles — the kind of stylish, character-driven action-RPG loop that has drawn early comparisons to genre favorites.
A 2027 date worth waiting for
With its striking art direction, dual-protagonist hook and roots in a beloved pen-and-paper setting, Anima: Song from the Abyss is shaping up to be a standout for action-RPG fans — even if the wait stretches into 2027. The game is available to wishlist now on Steam, and is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S alongside its PC release.
