Capcom's Tokyo Game Show 2026 booth plan buried one of its most interesting items in the partner exhibitions, and it is a phone game. Monster Hunter Outlanders is bringing a field nobody has played to Makuhari Messe - a locale listed under the Japanese name Kuchihate no Fuchi, roughly "the brink of decay" - and letting attendees traverse it with gliders and ziplines while hunting a Radiant Radobaan and an Azure Rathalos.
That is a debut, not a re-run. Outlanders has shown its opening region and its Grand Archipelago at previous shows; this is the first time a new field has been put in players' hands, and it lands three weeks after the game's biggest reveal to date.
Ruger Aidal set the stage at gamescom
At gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live in late August, Capcom and TiMi Studio Group revealed Ruger Aidal, the game's first original Elder Dragon and its flagship monster. The trailer above showed it bathed in gold and iridescent light against an aurora backdrop, with wings that read less like membrane and more like arrows of light - a deliberately un-Monster-Hunter silhouette for a deliberately un-Monster-Hunter entry point.
The reveal came with pre-registration opening on the App Store and Google Play, which is the clearest signal yet that Outlanders is closing in on launch rather than cycling through another year of beta tests. The game has already run three closed beta rounds.
Radiant Species are the mobile game's own idea
The TGS demo's headline monster is a Radiant Radobaan, and the "Radiant" prefix is worth pausing on. Radiant Species are exclusive to Outlanders - altered variants of familiar monsters with changed appearances and abilities, greater aggression and raw power, and a tendency to become more frenzied the longer a hunt runs. They are the game's answer to tempered and apex variants, but built as a systemic layer rather than an endgame difficulty tier.
Pairing one with an Azure Rathalos in the same demo is a smart bit of curation: one monster every Monster Hunter player can read instantly, and one that only exists here.
Gliders and ziplines change what a field is for
The other detail in Capcom's demo description is traversal. Attendees will explore Kuchihate no Fuchi using gliders and ziplines, which is not how you describe a flat hunting arena. Monster Hunter fields have been getting more vertical since World, but a mobile entry leaning on aerial movement suggests the field is built around elevation changes rather than a ring of connected zones - and that getting to a monster is meant to be part of the loop, not a loading-screen substitute.
What Outlanders actually is
Outlanders is developed by TiMi Studio Group - the team behind Call of Duty: Mobile and Pokemon UNITE - under license from Capcom, and it is a free-to-play, open-world survival hunting action RPG built for iOS and Android. It is set in Aesoland, a region with its own ecology and its own monster roster alongside returning series staples, and it has been designed around both solo play with NPC squad members and four-player coordinated hunts.
The weapon roster at previous showings has covered great sword, long sword, dual blades, bow and heavy bowgun, with Capcom's own overview videos adding lance and hammer breakdowns over the course of 2026. The game layers in an Adventurer's Guild social system, world events and free-building in the wild - the sort of persistent-world scaffolding that a premium console Monster Hunter has never needed and a live-service phone game absolutely does.
Why this matters more than a booth listing
Capcom now has two Monster Hunter products competing for the same September attention: Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, which goes world-first playable at the same show, and Outlanders, which is running its own field debut a few metres away. That is not a conflict so much as a statement of how the series is being partitioned - Wilds and its expansions carry the console flagship, Outlanders carries the phone, and both are being pushed at the same event rather than kept apart.
Tokyo Game Show 2026 runs September 17 to 21 at Makuhari Messe, with public days from the 19th. Pre-registration for Monster Hunter Outlanders is open now on the App Store and Google Play; no launch date has been announced.
