Mouthwashing, Wrong Organ's first-person horror game about the doomed crew of a stranded space freighter, finally has a console release date. It launches on October 29, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Xbox on PC, where it lands day one in Game Pass, and on the same day on PS5, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Publisher CRITICAL REFLEX confirmed the date during the October 20 ID@Xbox showcase, which puts the game on every major platform two days before Halloween.
A long road from PC to console
The console versions have been a while coming. Mouthwashing first came out on PC through Steam on September 26, 2024, and CRITICAL REFLEX announced the PS5, Xbox Series and Switch ports in February 2025 with a loose 2025 window. That window passed without a date. The ports now arrive about a year later than first planned, and the Xbox release has grown to include Xbox One and Xbox on PC.
The game has kept selling in the meantime. CRITICAL REFLEX says Mouthwashing has passed 800,000 copies on Steam, up from the 500,000 it reported when the console versions were first announced. It has also won awards, including Best Narrative and Players' Choice at the Horror Game Awards. For a short, story-led indie horror game with no multiplayer or live-service hooks, those are big numbers. A lot of that reach came from word of mouth and clips of its stranger scenes spreading online.

What Mouthwashing is about
Mouthwashing takes place aboard the Tulpar, a cargo freighter for the Pony Express delivery company, after a crash leaves it drifting in deep space. Five crew members are stuck with no hope of rescue and a dwindling store of food, and the ship's power will only last a few more months. Captain Curly, who was at the helm when it went wrong, survived the crash but is left maimed and unable to speak, at the mercy of the crew he stranded.
It plays as a linear, first-person narrative game, not a survival sim. There is no inventory to manage and no combat. Instead, you walk the cramped corridors of the Tulpar, talk to the crew and work through set-piece sequences that jump back and forth in time, piecing together what happened before the crash and what the crew are hiding from each other. Its low-poly, PS1-inspired look, with crunchy textures and heavy dithering, has become part of its identity, and the game regularly turns that look into something deliberately unsettling.

Platforms, Game Pass and physical copies
Here is how the October 29 launch breaks down:
- Xbox: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Xbox on PC, day one with Game Pass.
- PlayStation: PS5 and PS4.
- Nintendo: Nintendo Switch.
- PC: already out on Steam, with a standard price of $12.99.
Physical editions for PS5 and Switch are being handled by Fangamer, which has worked with CRITICAL REFLEX on Mouthwashing merchandise since the console versions were first announced. Console prices have not been confirmed yet.

More CRITICAL REFLEX games heading to Xbox
Mouthwashing was one of three CRITICAL REFLEX games the publisher brought to the showcase. The Water Museum's surreal cooking game Arctic Eggs, where you fry eggs and much stranger things in a dystopian Antarctic city, came out on Xbox Series X|S the same day it was shown. Trioskaz's paranoia thriller No, I'm Not a Human, in which you decide which door-knocking strangers to let in while shape-shifting impostors roam an apocalyptic world, is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Game Pass in 2027. CRITICAL REFLEX says it has sold more than a million copies on PC. Militsioner is also on the way to Xbox and Game Pass in 2027.
When you can play
If you've already played Mouthwashing on PC, the console release adds no new content that has been announced so far. It is the same story, now on more machines. If you haven't, October 29 makes it easy to try. Game Pass subscribers get it at no extra cost on day one, while PlayStation and Switch players can buy it digitally or wait for Fangamer's physical editions. Either way, it lands just in time for Halloween.
