Pokémon TCG Pocket's Dual Fusion Expansion Brings Dual-Type Cards on October 28

Pokémon TCG Pocket's Dual Fusion expansion goes live on October 28 at 6:00 p.m. PDT, adding the game's first dual-type cards, led by Mega Mewtwo X ex and Mega Greninja ex, along with six rental decks and a free Mega Rayquaza ex elite deck. A two-month second-anniversary event calendar starts the next day.

Pokémon TCG Pocket's Dual Fusion Expansion Brings Dual-Type Cards on October 28

Pokémon TCG Pocket is about to turn two, and it is marking the occasion by changing one of its oldest rules. The Pokémon Company has confirmed that the next expansion, Dual Fusion, goes live on Wednesday, October 28 at 6:00 p.m. PDT, which is the early hours of October 29 across Europe and Asia. It is the first set to introduce dual-type Pokémon cards to the mobile game, and it arrives with a long calendar of anniversary events running into January.

Two types on one card

Every Pokémon card in TCG Pocket has always carried a single type, and much of the game's strategy comes from knowing which types hit which harder. Dual Fusion breaks that. Its headline cards carry two types at once, so they can exploit two weaknesses and are harder to read from across the table. The two the company is leading with are both Mega Evolutions: Mega Mewtwo X ex, which is Psychic and Fighting, and Mega Greninja ex, which is Water and Darkness.

That matters for deck building. A Psychic-and-Fighting attacker gives a single slot coverage that used to take two separate cards, while defensive players now have to think about which of a card's types an opponent will exploit. Expect the first weeks after launch to be spent working out which existing archetypes absorb the new cards and which get pushed aside.

Six rental decks and an elite Rayquaza deck

For players who do not want to spend the first night opening packs before they can try the new cards, Dual Fusion ships with six rental decks built around the set. They are available from release until December 15 at 5:59 p.m. PST and will be swapped out when the next booster pack arrives. A new battle mode, Dual Fusion Limited, applies its own deck-building rules, and both those matches and random battles can earn promo packs.

Everyone also gets an elite deck sent to their Gifts box. It is a Dragon-type list built around Mega Rayquaza ex and its Mega Burst attack, backed up by Dragonair from Ruler of the Skies and Gouging Fire from Paradox Drive. Mega Greninja card covers and backdrops follow on Saturday, October 31.

The second-anniversary calendar

The expansion lands the day before a run of events that will keep the game busy for the rest of the year. The Second Anniversary Celebration Campaign runs from October 29 to December 14 and hands every player a ticket for a booster pack guaranteed to contain a two-star card. Alongside it:

A new series, and more changes to come

The "C1" label on the ranked season is a clue to how big this update is. Dual Fusion opens a new series of TCG Pocket expansions after the B-series sets that ran through 2026, and The Pokémon Company says it brings significant changes to the game beyond the cards themselves. Those are laid out in the October 2026 Producer Letter, not in the expansion announcement. With a new series, a new card mechanic and the anniversary all arriving within a few days of each other, it is worth reading that letter before the update downloads.

When to log in

Dual Fusion goes live on iOS and Android on October 28 at 6:00 p.m. PDT (9:00 p.m. EDT, and 1:00 a.m. UTC on October 29). TCG Pocket remains free to play. The anniversary pack ticket and the elite deck mean even lapsed players can try the dual-type cards without spending anything, and the six rental decks will stay available until mid-December.
