Bandai Namco saved one of its most-requested reveals for the biggest stage in fighting games. During EVO 2026 in Las Vegas on June 28, moments before the Tekken 8 Top 8 took over the main stage, the studio dropped the first gameplay trailer for Bob, the cheerful, deceptively nimble bruiser returning as part of the game's Season 3 character lineup.
If you skipped the Tekken games between his debut and now, the pitch is simple: Bob is a high-level martial artist who decided that bulking up was the only way to combine power and speed without sacrificing either. The reveal trailer leans hard into that gimmick. He rolls into the arena on a skateboard, then proceeds to throw his considerable weight around with a flowing, surprisingly agile moveset.
A body that fights back
The standout from the trailer is a returning signature trait: Bob can absorb incoming attacks with his oversized belly. When the property is active and an opponent commits to a strike, the hit simply bounces off, leaving them wide open for a punishing counter. It's the kind of high-risk, high-reward read that rewards players who can bait a panic button, and it instantly gives Bob a distinct identity among the roster's grapplers and rushdown characters.
Beyond the belly-bounce, the footage showed off the mix of speed and mass that has always defined Bob. Quick step-in jabs and rolling momentum set up his heavier launchers, and his Heat-fueled pressure looked tailor-made for cornering opponents who respect his ability to turtle.
When can you play him?
Bob is scheduled to release on August 24, 2026. Players who own the Season 3 Pass get early access five days ahead of the wider launch, unlocking him on August 19. That puts him squarely in the middle of Tekken 8's most ambitious post-launch year yet.
The trailer also slipped in a tease of another familiar face: Roger Jr., the boxing kangaroo, whose full reveal is being held for Evo France 2026 on October 11. Between Bob this summer and Roger Jr. on the horizon, Bandai Namco is making it clear that Season 3 is being built around bringing back the series' most beloved oddballs.
