There Are No Ghosts at the Grand Steals the Show With Supernatural Musical Charm

Friday Sundae's There Are No Ghosts at the Grand stole the spotlight at the ID@Xbox showcase with its unique blend of hotel renovation by day, ghost-hunting combat by night, and original musical numbers woven throughout.

There Are No Ghosts at the Grand Steals the Show With Supernatural Musical Charm

One of the most refreshingly original games on the horizon just took center stage at the ID@Xbox showcase today. There Are No Ghosts at the Grand, developed by Friday Sundae, is a supernatural musical adventure that combines hotel renovation with ghost-hunting combat — and if that description sounds like nothing you've played before, that's entirely the point.

The premise is delightfully strange. You inherit a crumbling English hotel called The Grand and set about restoring it to its former glory. By day, you wield an arsenal of friendly, talking power tools — a sandblaster, paint sprayer, furniture cannon, and daisy-chain gun — to renovate rooms, repair fixtures, and transform the hotel's faded spaces back into something beautiful.

When Night Falls, the Tools Become Weapons

But when darkness settles over The Grand, those same power tools transform into ghost-hunting weapons. The vacuum sucks up vengeful spirits, the paint sprayer reveals invisible assailants, and the furniture cannon launches bookcases at slithering spectral threats. It's a clever dual-purpose system that ties the daytime restoration directly to nighttime combat in a way that feels both logical and wildly entertaining.

Adding to the atmosphere is a sardonic cat companion and a twisting supernatural plot that the developers describe as a "musical mystery." Original songs are woven throughout the narrative, giving the game a theatrical quality that sets it apart from everything else in the indie space right now.

Campaign and Platform Details

Friday Sundae has confirmed that the main campaign runs approximately 8 to 10 hours, with additional side activities and quests pushing the total playtime higher. The studio has also been vocal about its commitment to handcrafted content, noting that AI tools played no meaningful role in the game's development.

There Are No Ghosts at the Grand is coming to PC and Xbox Series X|S later this year, and it's expected to arrive on Game Pass at launch. After today's showcase spotlight, this quirky supernatural adventure just shot to the top of a lot of wishlists — and deservedly so.
