Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Sets Sail July 9 - Ubisoft Singapore's Ground-Up Anvil Remake Brings Ray Tracing, Dynamic Weather and New Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet Stories

Thirteen years after the original set the high-water mark for open-world naval adventure, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has a firm date: it launches July 9, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Ubisoft first revealed the project at a dedicated worldwide showcase back on April 24, and it has spent the weeks since positioning Resynced not as a remaster but as a ground-up remake of 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

Development is led by Ubisoft Singapore, the studio that handled Black Flag's original naval systems, with a number of the game's original developers returning to the fold. The whole thing has been rebuilt on the latest version of the Anvil engine rather than patched on top of the old code.

Rebuilt from the keel up

The headline is the technology. Resynced runs with ray tracing and micropolygon rendering, and the Caribbean has been overhauled with dynamic weather and new environmental destruction, so storms, splintering hulls and shifting seas behave far more convincingly than they did in 2013. Kenway's Jackdaw, the shanties, the ship-to-ship broadsides and the diving contracts all return, but every asset has been remade to modern standards.

New stories among old friends

Resynced is billed as a faithful recreation of the original campaign, but Ubisoft is building on top of it with exclusive new content. Familiar faces return and fresh storylines are dedicated to fan-favorite pirates, with Ubisoft specifically calling out expanded arcs for Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. For a game whose cast has only grown in cultural cachet in the years since launch, leaning into its pirate ensemble is a smart way to give returning players a reason to hoist the sails again.

With the remake landing July 9, it kicks off a remarkably busy month of revivals - arriving just ahead of Halo: Campaign Evolved on July 28 - and gives PlayStation and Xbox owners one of the most beloved entries in the series, rebuilt for hardware that can finally do its open ocean justice.
