Publisher Kodansha and developer Bon have announced BUZZ or DIE, a point-and-click adventure the pair are describing, without much hedging, as a death row inmates reality show crossed with a death game. It is coming to PC via Steam in 2026.
The premise is the kind of thing that either lands immediately or does not land at all. Condemned prisoners are entered into a televised death match. You are one of them, alongside a man named Sagishima. The winner receives a pardon and one wish granted. The loser gets death — and then an eternity of humiliation as a slave android model.
The competition is content creation
Here is where it gets genuinely novel. The contest is not a fight. The rules, as the game states them: dive into your opponent's mindscape and search for secrets. Turn those secrets into content and make a short video. Gain the most Likes from the audience to win.
So the loop is investigation feeding into editing feeding into a popularity contest. You are rummaging through another person's interior life for material, then packaging the worst of what you find into something an audience will reward. As satire of the short-form video economy it is not exactly subtle, but making the player do the harvesting rather than watch someone else do it is a meaningfully different framing than most games that take a swing at this subject.

The look
Visually the game is committing hard to a degraded-broadcast aesthetic: heavy scanlines, chromatic fringing on character art, a curved CRT-style frame around the whole scene, and a magenta-and-black palette that only breaks for the occasional white UI element. One of the announced cast members simply has a CRT monitor for a head. Character portraits are hand-drawn in a high-contrast ink style closer to a manga panel than a visual novel sprite.
Kodansha being the publisher is worth noting on that front. The company is one of Japan's largest manga publishers and has been building out a games label over the past few years, generally on smaller, authored projects rather than volume output.

Platforms and languages
BUZZ or DIE is listed on Steam as coming in 2026, developed by Bon and published by Kodansha, with support for English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. Steam files it under Adventure, Casual and Indie. No specific release date has been given, and no console versions have been announced.
Kodansha Game Lab published the first trailer on 30 August. At 75 seconds it is short, but it does a decent job of establishing the tone — which, given how much of this game's appeal rests on whether you find the premise funny or repellent, is probably the most useful thing it could do.
