Hellraiser: Revival Adds a Switch 2 Version for Oct 8

Saber Interactive has opened digital pre-orders and confirmed a Nintendo Switch 2 release alongside PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam on October 8, 2026. The developers also detailed how the Genesis Configuration puzzle box drives combat, traversal and puzzles.

Hellraiser: Revival Adds a Switch 2 Version for Oct 8

Saber Interactive has opened digital pre-orders for Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival and, in the process, confirmed a platform that was not previously on the list: the game is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2. It launches October 8, 2026 across Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, with Switch 2 pre-orders following shortly.

Pricing is straightforward: $39.99 for the standard edition, $49.99 for the deluxe. That is a mid-tier price for a first-person horror game with a licensed pedigree this specific, and it puts Revival in the same bracket as the wave of focused, campaign-length horror releases that have done well over the last few years.

A Switch 2 version is a bigger deal than it looks

Revival is not a stylised or low-fidelity horror game. It is a first-person action-survival title built around dense, ornate interiors, volumetric lighting and a great deal of extremely detailed gore. Getting that onto Switch 2 is a meaningful technical ask, and Saber has a track record here β€” the studio spent years as the go-to shop for porting demanding games to constrained hardware before it started shipping its own.

What Saber has not yet detailed is how the Switch 2 build performs, whether it ships day-and-date in full or with any content differences, and what resolution and frame-rate targets it is aiming for. Those are the questions worth holding until closer to launch. What is confirmed is that all four platforms share the October 8 date.

The puzzle box is the whole game, mechanically

PlayStation.Blog published a deep dive on Revival's puzzle design the same day, and it makes the design thesis unusually clear. Assistant game director Vid Rajin put it plainly: "We use the Genesis Configuration – a puzzle box – at the centre of things. Mysterious puzzle boxes are literally key to everything in Clive Barker's universe."

That is not marketing shorthand. The Genesis Configuration is a multi-purpose tool rather than a single-solution key. According to the developers it channels power for offensive abilities β€” including setting enemies on fire β€” rotates large environmental elements like giant wheels to open safe paths, and physically transforms into different shapes to unlock gates by matching the items held by statues. Some of its environmental puzzles are binary; others have multiple valid solutions.

Building a horror game's combat, traversal and puzzle systems around one object is a risk, because it either feels elegant or it feels like every problem is the same problem. The mitigation Rajin describes is intent: the teams at Mad Head Games and Saber drew on their adventure-game backgrounds and pushed to give puzzles "narrative purpose... wherever we can." That is the right instinct for Hellraiser specifically, where the box has never been a lock β€” it has always been a bargain.

M.C. Escher interiors and a labyrinth that bleeds into the real world

The environmental design leans hard on the franchise's central conceit that hell is not somewhere else, it is somewhere adjacent. Rajin describes "M.C. Escher inspired interiors" and labyrinthine spaces that blend the mundane with the surreal, noting that "the labyrinth Aidan is trapped in is intertwined with the real world."

One example the developers gave is a set of looping rooms that simply repeat until the player reverses direction β€” a spatial trick rather than a lock-and-key puzzle. That kind of design tends to work well in first person, where you cannot see the map cheat that would make the illusion obvious.

The Chatterer, and enemies you learn rather than fight

Among the confirmed enemies is the Chatterer, one of the most recognisable Cenobites in the franchise and a nasty proposition in a game that is not primarily about winning firefights. In Revival the Chatterer teleports between corridors, which pushes players toward reading the environment for unconventional escape routes rather than looking for the right weapon.

That is a familiar structure β€” the persistent hunter who forces environmental literacy β€” and it is one of the few horror mechanics that reliably scales tension across a long campaign, provided the levels are built to support it. Given how much of Revival's identity rests on its architecture, it is a sensible pairing.

Doug Bradley returns as Pinhead, with Barker advising

The casting news remains the strongest signal of intent here. Doug Bradley reprises Pinhead, the role he played across the first eight films β€” a return that carries real weight for anyone who grew up with the series, and one that a lot of recent Hellraiser projects have not been able to secure. Clive Barker himself advised on the game's conception and collaborated on the story.

Between Bradley's voice and Barker's involvement, Revival is positioned less as a licensed tie-in and more as a continuation of the original creative line. That is a specific pitch, and horror licences that fumble it tend to be judged harshly by exactly the audience they were made for.

Length, and what PS5 Pro adds

Saber puts the campaign at over 12 hours, which is a healthy runtime for a first-person horror game β€” long enough to build and release tension properly without drifting into the padding that sinks the genre. Gameplay blends survival horror and action from a first-person perspective, with stealth elements layered in, so expect resource pressure and avoidance to matter alongside the shooting.

On PS5 Pro, the game supports enhanced graphics settings and PSSR upscaling. No equivalent detail has been shared for the Switch 2 version yet.

An October horror slot with room to breathe

October 8 is an assertive but sensible date. It plants Revival squarely in the Halloween run-up without dropping it into the last-week traffic jam, and it gives the game a couple of clear weeks to build word of mouth before the seasonal noise peaks. Launching simultaneously on four platforms β€” including Nintendo's β€” also means it is not fighting the "wait for the port" hesitation that splits horror audiences.

Digital pre-orders are open now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam at $39.99 standard and $49.99 deluxe, with Switch 2 pre-orders to follow. Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival launches October 8, 2026.
