EA has officially unveiled EA Sports FC 27, confirming a worldwide launch on September 25, 2026 across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. The reveal trailer dropped July 23, and EA is already framing this entry as more than a roster update.
Mbappe and Bellingham Share the Cover
Kylian Mbappe returns as the sole cover star of the Ultimate Edition and is joined by Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham on the limited-time Ultimate Plus Edition. Both players offered statements alongside the reveal. Mbappe: "I'm very proud to be featured across three editions of EA SPORTS FC 27, and to share the Ultimate Plus Edition cover alongside my Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham... I'm excited to see fans write their own stories in FC 27." Bellingham added: "Every time I've had the chance to be part of EA SPORTS FC, it's been a special moment, and coming back for a third cover alongside Kylian is no different."

The Grounds: A Social Football Open World
The headline new feature is The Grounds, described by EA as a new social football playground that expands the Clubs experience beyond the pitch. It's built around three districts inspired by football heritage, mixing casual pickup kickabouts with competitive play, player progression, and cosmetic personalization. EA says players will get mentorship moments from real and franchise figures including Mbappe, Chloe Kelly, Paulo Dybala, and Alex Hunter. Notably, The Grounds is exclusive to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2 - it won't be available on last-gen platforms.

Career Mode and FUT Get Real Rebuilds
Beyond The Grounds, EA is touting a rebuilt Transfer Market in Career Mode, with dynamic player valuations shaped by club power, potential, ratings, and current form, plus new negotiation tactics. Ultimate Team gets a new FUT Gallery feature for building and grading dream club sets. On the pitch, EA is promising dynamic corners, stronger attacking awareness, and rebalanced AI defending. John Shepherd, VP and GM of EA Sports FC, summed up the pitch: "Whether it's gameplay shaped by community feedback, the all-new FUT Gallery, a rebuilt Transfer Market in Career, or creating and growing your footballer in The Grounds... FC 27 is designed to deepen players' connection to football and to one another."
Early Access and Editions
Ultimate and Ultimate Plus Edition owners get seven days of early access starting September 18, while EA Play members get a 10-hour trial the same day, and EA Play Pro members get full Day 1 access. The limited-time Ultimate Plus Edition - available for pre-order through August 31 - stacks in up to 10,000 FC Points, five Premium Passes, an 85+ OVR ICON player, and Career Mode perks including triple ICONs/Heroes and extra manager slots.
Why It Matters
EA's yearly football releases live or die on whether they feel like more than a squad-update patch, and leading with a genuinely new mode in The Grounds - rather than just gameplay tuning - is a clear attempt to answer that criticism head-on. With 21,000-plus players, 800-plus clubs, and 300-plus global football partners under license, FC 27's scale isn't in question. Whether The Grounds actually changes how people play is the thing worth watching between now and September 25.
