The Lands Between are coming to Nintendo's newest console. Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, priced at $79.99 — and it's the most complete version of FromSoftware's 2022 masterpiece yet assembled.
Tarnished Edition is an all-in-one package: it bundles the base game together with the acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, then layers on brand-new content built specifically for this release. Headlining that content are two new starting classes — the Heavy Knight, a durable, strength-focused build clad in bulky plate, and the lighter, more agile Idus Knight. There's also new character armor and, for the first time, the ability to customize the appearance of your spectral steed, Torrent.
A rocky road to Switch 2
Getting here wasn't smooth. Bandai Namco first revealed the Switch 2 version during the April 2025 Nintendo Direct, originally targeting a 2025 launch. But when a playable build turned up at Gamescom that summer, journalists described portions of the demo running at roughly 15 frames per second — effectively unplayable for a game built on precise, reactive combat. FromSoftware delayed the port in October 2025, citing the need for “game performance adjustments.”
The extra time appears to have paid off: the studio locked in the August 28, 2026 date this past June, and later demos have shown the port running far more smoothly. Players on other platforms aren't left out, either — the new additions are available separately as the “Tarnished Pack” for $4.99 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
For Switch 2 owners, this is a big one: one of the defining open-world RPGs of the decade, expansion included, finally playable on the go. It arrives August 28.
