Gamescom's opening act has a date. Opening Night Live runs on Tuesday, August 25, hosted once again by Geoff Keighley alongside Eefje "sjokz" Depoortere, streaming free worldwide on YouTube, Twitch and Steam at 11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM BST, with a pre-show half an hour before that. Three games are already confirmed for the bill, and one of them is the reason a lot of people will set an alarm.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation
Square Enix is bringing Final Fantasy VII Revelation to the show with game director Naoki Hamaguchi in attendance - the conclusion to the remake trilogy, currently carrying a 2027 window on its Steam page. Whatever gets shown in Cologne will be scrutinized frame by frame by a fanbase that has spent two games arguing about where this story is actually going.
Metro 2039
4A Games' Metro 2039 is the second confirmed name. Deep Silver has it listed for February 2027, and Gamescom is a natural home for it - the series has always played well to a European crowd, and the last mainline entry, Exodus, used the show floor to considerable effect. Expect the tunnels, and expect them to look expensive.
The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past
The third confirmed slot goes to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past, the third expansion CD Projekt Red announced back in May, ten years after Blood and Wine. It is being co-developed with Fool's Theory and it puts you back in Geralt's boots for a new case, landing in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. CD Projekt said at announcement that more details would follow in late summer. August 25 is late summer.
Who else is in the building
Beyond ONL itself, the show floor is effectively sold out. Xbox, SEGA, Capcom, Bandai Namco, Ubisoft, Krafton, HoYoverse and Nintendo have all committed to public presences at Koelnmesse, and gamescom has confirmed that every available exhibition area for 2026 is booked. Publishers do not buy that much floor space to show nothing, so the three announced games are almost certainly the floor rather than the ceiling.
How to watch
Opening Night Live streams free on YouTube, Twitch and Steam on August 25. The main show typically runs around two hours; the pre-show starts 30 minutes earlier and has historically hidden a couple of reveals of its own, which is Keighley's way of making sure nobody tunes in late.
