Developed by The Coalition in partnership with People Can Fly, E-Day is the sixth mainline entry and a true origin story, set 14 years before the original Gears of War. The gameplay showed a younger, armour-less and far more mobile Marcus Fenix fighting through the streets of the city of Kalona on Sera as Emergence Day — humanity’s first catastrophic encounter with the Locust Horde — erupts around him.

The Coalition is leaning into exploration this time: how much of the city you pick through determines how many civilians you can save, while venturing down side streets uncovers extra environmental storytelling. New tools and tactics for holding back the Locust round out a grittier, more desperate take on the series’ signature cover-shooting.

Gears of War: E-Day launches October 6, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, day one on Game Pass. It will not be coming to PlayStation 5.
